See back in my day, before Trent invented the Internet, these sorts of urban insider experiments in phenomenology were carried out with stickers and stencils and graffiti on light posts, buildings, fences, mailboxes and any other public urban spaces...these things used to be EVERYWHERE in Cambridge, MA in the early '90's:
