Who all is here and what are you doing? (Read 16874 times)

Welcome to RA, George. Quite a few Texans around here - some of us will see you at White Rock.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

Hey - I'm Kevin and just found this site today, it's great! I'm from Long Island, New York and have been running on again off again for the past 18 years. I'm training for the NYC Marathon, and am always looking for motivation and advice. I've always loved running, particularly long distances - I'd rather run 15 miles slowly than 5 miles fast any day of the week Cool
Kevin, greetings from another "Lawn Gylander"! Good luck with the marathon!
      Hashiranka

"Hashiranka" here, and I'm excited about being a part of this virtual running group. I've been running since I was about 8 years old (just turned 30). With track and XC coaches for parents, I couldn't escape this path. Ran competitively in middle school, high school, and college, but now am just running for the pleasure of it. I do like to run races, but I'm not training for anything special. I especially like 10ks and have run a few half marathons. I believe that great scenery, hills, interesting locations, and/or running buddies will make an ordinary run great. Currently residing and running in the San Francisco Bay Area, where every day is a good day to run. My screen name is a word in a Japanese dialect that means, "RUN!" This, along with "fight up" was a cheer for runners on a track team that I used to help out with at a high school in Japan.
          Welcome to RA, Hashiranka!

Hi all! My name's Fanda, 27 and I am from Czech republic. Eric has done a really great job on this site and I'll try to fill in as many workouts as I can now Smile I've realized recently my life is all about heavy drinking so I quit and trying to start running again (which I used to do a long time ago). Hope to run marathon soon... possibly in February next year. I've never been so excited about training as I am now and I guess one of the reasons for that is this great virtual running community Smile If any of you ever happen to come to Prague, let me know Wink Cheers

            Into the wild

Welcome Fanda, nice to meet you Smile Good luck with your goals.

              Shut up and run

Hi all!! oh where to start... 29 y/o male in Oklahoma City, OK.. computer nerd by day, and well, i guess i am still a computer nerd by night too... guess i will need to work on that a bit more.... Confused I ran track throughout hs and college ... primarily a field event guy.. Pole vault, long jump, triple, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 200m, 400m and have done a few decathlons.. so um, yeah, now that i am like 30 and the cartilage damage in the knees is catching up with me, I have been transitioning to something that keeps me running and keeps pushing me to improve... my short term goal is halfs in 08 and maybe a full someday. just kinda depends on how i progress and how well my knees and shins hold up.. Distance was never my thing when i was younger... I could roller blade 12-14 miles a night, but running much over 4 and I wanted to leap into on-coming traffic. At least when i would blade, the cops would escort me home.. they don't seem to like it when you roller blade down the interstate at 4am.. LOL. but man, the interstate was the smoothest road around and i could really get to moving.. oh, back on topic... I pretty much am just working on building a base right now with 2-3 miles a day 5-6 days a week with strength training following every run... some say i am pushing myself a bit to much with no real down days.. but meh, the pain reminds me i am still alive... I had a coworker refer me to this site... so far, its kinda awesome... just wish the strength training section was a bit more developed.. but all in all, the tools and logs are great!! anyways.. less rambling, more running!
Hi Everyone, my name is Jason, 32 year old South African who has been living in London for about 7 years. Used to do the odd 10km race, but this time last year met my current girlfriend who loves her running. She passed on that passion and I got hooked. Have done a number of 10mile races now and have signed up for the Paris marathon in April next year. So a lot of winter training ahead for me. Love this site and will hopefully be logging a lot of training runs in the coming weeks ahead. Great site Eric, it definately inspires me to keep running.

Anyone with the member name Haggis is cool in my book! Nice to meet you, Jason! The Paris marathon sounds like such a great goal. At one time I had a goal to run the Chicago Marathon...now, not so much! Wink k

Hello all..... My name is Jason, I'm 25, and a new runner. I'm 5'9" and my weight has been slowly creeping skyward since high school. At the end of last year, I hit my high of 230lbs Cry . I got it in my head this year that I was sick and tired of being...well....sick and tired all the time. I had always HATED running, mostly because I (thought) I couldn't do it, so I started to ride my bike more and more. After a few months of pedaling my ass off (literally!), I am now down to 190! Anyway, my wonderful wife is a runner, and has always been (lovingly) persistent about me going out and running with her. So, about a month ago a succumbed to her wishes....went out and ran a 9:00 mile....didn't feel like I was going to die...and I LOVED IT! All I can say is now I'm hooked, and I actually look forward to going out for a run now. This site is amazing, and there is such a mountain of information here....I've been haplessly trolling through it for a few days now! Cheers.
                      ~Jason
                        Welcome Jason Smile

                        New Runner

Hi. I'm Christie. I'm a very new runner. I started about 3mos ago with the Couch to 5k plan. Now I'm doing the One Hour Runner plan. So far so good. I think I may do a half marathon training program next.
Name is Dave...started running back in May '06 to get in shape for a PT test for a federal agency... The time with that particular agency has come and gone (I failed the PT test by 0.29 secs) and I realized that I liked the way that running made me feel (and the way my clothes fit) so I kept doing it... I'm now with ANOTHER federal law enforcement agency, and actually was the flag-carrier for my Academy class, due to my ability to run distances... Big grin I can't imagine WHY I ever hated running and why it's taken me so long to actually do it...Now I just need to get my wife hooked so we can go run together! Great to be here, and the site is AWESOME by the way...

Welcome Christie and Dave! Good to have you here!
I'm Lauren, and I live in Minneapolis. (Well, technically, I now live on the first block of St. Paul, but as a native Minneapolitan I can't ADMIT that to anyone!) I'm 26, a grad student at the U of MN in French Lit., and I'm new to running. I was always one of those people that said "I'm just not made to be a runner": I did ballet, yoga, horseback riding, etc. It's true that running never came naturally to me, but I'm enjoying working at it and seeing those small little baby steps forward. It would be mighty fun to run the Twin Cities Marathon in 2008...hmmm.... Wink
