Just came back form the doctors... (Read 948 times)

Now that was a bath...

Thanks everyone. Especially you Bernie!!!! How are you! Where's Trent, I need Trent. You know the weird thing. I woke up today with less symptoms than I have had for a month! My tongue feels less painful and my nose is barely weeping. I said to my husband, 'Maybe I'll get there on Wednesday and I will be so much better I won't even need the op'. Then I thought, is someone out there praying cause I really do feel much better! I feel much better emotionally today too. I spent yesterday in a state of shock, trying desperately to find a reason online that would explain what they were doing that didn't envolve the 'C' word. Today I found that reason within my own piece of mind - they are doing it to try to rule out the 'C' word. Just cause it's rare doesn't mean it has to be bad right? I should have known better than to search online anyhow. I know hubby is concerned but he's being a trooper as always. The hugs mean a lot. I'm pooping myself at the thought of the operation too. You can't bandage a tongue can you so the wound will have to be left undressed. Just the thought of it makes me squirm. Hopefully 'Kooky Syndrome' will turn out to be no more than a doctor-confusing annoyance! Claire xxx

Here's how doctors think when you walk in the door with a problem: 1st: Make sure the person isn't dying right now. (you passed this one with flying colors) 2nd: Rule out Bad Stuff. 3rd: Figure out what's really going on. You sound stuck in the second step. That doesn't mean you will STAY in the second step! Rare does not always mean bad. You are right on with the rule-out process. As much as you don't want to hear the C-word, the Dr doesn't want to say the C-word until they are absolutely sure and have a plan of action for you. I haven't ever had to tell a patient they have cancer (yet) but I am scared shitless of that day. Good luck, Claire! Tounges heal fast! Tongue Happy thoughts from Colorado.

      Now that was a bath...

Thanks for the happy thoughts. Hey, do you have any ideas? I'm desperate here. I have had a lip issue for almost five months. At first it presented as a dry cracked lip, this then became sore and felt like it was buzzing if I didn't apply lip balms every half hour. Now it just feels numb and dry. About three months ago (and four tubes of cold sore cream later) I developed a really sore tongue which progressed to some lesions and small bumps. About six weeks ago I started having nosebleeds and then developed lesions in both sides of my nose. These weep and bleed a lot and were the reason I went back to the doctor a second time. This time she said she didn't know what was causing it but that it was worth taking Aciclover (an anti-viral) to see if it helped. Three weeks later and I am having difficulty sleeping as the lesions in my nose weep and block my nose at night - and breathing though my mouth is difficult with a sore tongue. I went to see the doctor again (this time a different doc as it was a weekend appointment) and that was yesterday's appointment. As a side note I also have low platelets (they have hovered around 70 -90 for the last two years) and have been given a diagnosis of ITP. No other symptoms at all. Generally in very good health after a consideral amount of self abuse in my teens and twenties. Just thought I would throw my symptoms to the wind as I know that there are a few docs on the board. Where's Trent, I need Trent.
HERE! Sorry, crazy busy weekend. Yikes, tongue and mouth biopsies? Rare cancer? What is all this??!??! What is the name of this mysterious rare cancer that is gonna require a biopsy? Oh, and for what it is worth, this is one fine pic! downshiftbarbie is right on. At least that is how good docs think Wink Your lip and nose symptoms may be allergies. Yes. Just plain allergies. It may also be a nutritional deficit. Selenium, magnesium or biotin. Do you have a special diet you follow that may lead to a micronutrient deficiency such as this? I doubt that it is viral.

              Finished!

Claire, I too am thinking of you and am also sending hugs your way.

                  Now that was a bath...

Trent - I'm vegetarian. I guess I did a stupid thing and asked the doc 'Are you doing a biopsy to check for cancer?' His honest reply 'Yes, but I would think it non typical - it is possible it's a rare cancer, that or a rare syndrome tied in with your platelets.' I am so freaked. He seemed stumped. I am feeling more confident after reading your posts. The patch on my tongue that he wants to excise tomorrow has improved markedly over the last three days. Even better news I have a similar patch growing elsewhere in my mouth now. I think that this is great because cancer isn't mobile is it. I am vegetarian - my diet hasn't changed any over the last few years but I have previously had a vitamin B12 deficiency, discovered when they diagnosed my low platelets. I know that they haven't checked my B12 for about 2 years. I reckon it's a skin disorder. I think that they should take swabs from my nose (that's where I have the most issues at the moment) before chopping off pieces of me! Hubby says that I should be assertive tomorrow and insist on the swabs being taken first. How would they diagnose allergies? I'll mention that to my doctor tomorrow. Now I am worried that Mr Scissor Happy Doc is going to cut off bits of me that frankly, I'd quite like to keep. Trent - if you read this in the next fourteen hours - do you think that it is reasonable to result to the knife given my symptoms? See the internet is good! I am a whole lot less worried after speaking with you folks! I'm such a poser. Glad you liked the pic. Hippest Grandma in town eh? Claire xxx

Claire, I just read your posts too. Sounds like things are looking up already. Stay positive. We're all wishing you the best!
Claire, sending good thoughts as well. Have you considered asking about a referral to an ear, throat and nose specialist? And, maybe an allergist?
