Streak strike? (Read 1127 times)

My minimum has been 3 miles.

Yesterday was day 190.  I started a streak to ensure that I would keep training towards my goal marathon.  That marathon, Grandma's, went down poorly the other day.  The heat blew me (and loads of others) away.  I am tired, my body is tired and I need a break.  Add to that the fact that I have a bad shin splint that may be a stress reaction or fracture, and that I need to be recovered for my next round of marathoning this Fall...

I am considering strongly taking some time off.

      Okay.

      Runners run.

      I fly.

I support that - you can always start up again when you feel up to it.  (Plus then I move up one place on the list.)

        Bring it on.

          Cool story Trent.

Seriously though if you feel like you need it then don't just keep running for the streak's sake. I took a few days off in a row a couple weeks ago and I think I needed the break. Granted I was only up to 70ish days.

You need to replace the miles that you were running with something - Maybe a minimum of 3 drinks a day ...

Just kidding ... I find post race time off ... when needed puts me into a funk and sometimes a bit of depression - The 2 weeks off that I had to take would have been ok, but at 60-70 drinks and I was getting really depressed.

I would actually suggest doing a bunch of fun things that you normally do not have time for ... golf, strip clubs, movies, volunteer ... what ever.

            Heel up.

              I'd consider seeing a doctor.

But seriously 190 days is laughable.  I was at 21 a few weeks ago and I couldn't shut up about it in my little real world.

What are the symptoms?  Does it hurt when you are running?  Etc.?

I started about 20 days later than you (not realizing you were streaking - it was just something I decided to do for this year.)

My minimum is 1. Try that for a bit.

My minimum number is zero.  It's much better that way.

Streaks are great, but they can also be worthless, sometimes days off are more meaningful than even easy miles.  Do it!

Is it even worth it to go through a pre-run ritual for 7-10 minutes of running?

                              Hey, nice marmot!

I am considering strongly taking some time off.

How does one strongly take time off anyhow?

This whole thing is simply ridiculous. Your hobby, which you do for fun, has become a bit less fun as of late and you're having trouble deciding whether or not to cut back on this hobby for a while, until it becomes fun again. Your hobbies should be fun. You should have fun in your spare time. That's the whole point.

                                Waahhhhh! What about my streak?!

Nobody cares about your streak. Besides, I know for a fact that a week ago, you only actually ran 2.98 miles anyway.

A runner with a streak is a lot like a cyclist who's had the wrong part of his taint compressed by his bicycle seat for too long and now walks around with a permaboner. It's ugly. It makes for awkward social situations. Your wife will put up with it for a while, but she'll get pissed eventually. It scares children. It makes for such ill-fitting clothes that even the most experienced tailor won't try to help you. The list goes on.

For everyone's sake, let it go.
