Mondailies (Read 47 times)

LawyerMom17, turns out I had time to read your RR. Looks like you did really well out there. Your last two miles were faster, you raced the last .1...

    B goal is good!

You take Gu before the race, like I do. Like it says on the box. I don't see many people doing that.

    Congrats on your race!

^mostly this. There have been times when I broke down & used the treadmill if there was some kind of really undesirable weather conditions, or just no place to run outside. (Such as a recent trip staying near JFK airport, where things just looked a bit too scary outside.)

Also the hotel treadmill can be kind of a crapshoot - they might only have 1 or 2, and they could be occupied when you get there. Or, they have a 30 min time limit, and you have to re-start it a couple times, and there's someone else waiting. Etc.

And outside the US/Canada, you never see hotel gyms.

All of my hotels in my Germany/Austria trip had gyms. It was funny where I tried to figure out why my lifting was so crappy in them before having it click that the weights were in kilograms.

Huh. I must be staying in the wrong places. Or they've caught on but I stopped looking for them.

First off, great job on the race!  The warmth and headwind alone would be enough to derail anyone's A-goal.  Great work racing to your fitness.

And the "I need to figure this out but have no clue what I'm doing wrong": My stomach during the race was fine.  It was even fine for about an hour or so afterward.  But OMG, the next 5 hours were absolute hell.  My guess is Gu is fine for energy, but it just sits there and after you stop working so hard, your stomach is like, "WTF am I supposed to do with this crap, this is making me angry and I shall punish you for consuming it."  Thankfully it's better now, and I've stopped bargaining with the Lord about the situation.

What did you eat immediately after the race?  Like, within 10-15 minutes of finishing?  If I don't get something in me for recovery ASAFP after the race, after about an hour my stomach starts to feel like hell and I get nauseous and pukey.  When that happens, I have to lie down for a couple of hours until it passes.  I chalk it up to my body craving nutrition that isn't there.  I always make sure to have a recovery drink ready (I use Infinit) if the car is close enough, and if not, I make sure to eat some post-race food....bagel, pretzels, Coke or whatever, just to get calories in.

Try IHG/Marriott. Oh funny irony that I told on the Runner's World boards: one of the gyms I use here has an Alpine Pass setting that I used. When I was in Munich (right near the Alps), I set the bike to a Cascade Mountain setting.

I figure the American chains are more likely.

Who knew? It's been years since I've heard Columbus Day even mentioned. I'd bet most people in the US have no idea that today is Columbus Day.

Guess you don't live in DC like I do. It's nearly a ghost town in places.

7.5mi this afternoon in the park in some really awful weather.  It is what it is though, ugh.  Legs are feeling pretty good; will probably shoot for Thursday to get a workout in this week.

Checked my log for the year and looks like I'll hit 3000mi tomorrow! Smile

Unless I am training for an important race, I am not wasting precious vacation time on the treadmill!

                  Or running at all!

I always run on vacation. I ran less this summer than I usually do when I'm away, but I managed  about half my usual mileage. I was still a bit out of shape when I came back. Of course it depends how long the vacation is. But I had no more aches and pains. There was some good in that, and also in the fact that the woman wasn't mad at me from thinking about running all the time.

                        Damn!  Lot of posts!

Got my 8 miler in with sweat pants, insulated turtle neck long under ware top, long sleeve Tee, windbreaker type warm up jacket, ball cap.  Trying to stay heat acclimated for the upcoming races. Cools off quick this time of year up here, and stay warm down low-where I race.

LM: Nice job!  Pretty close to the 1:48 we figured. You get a whole cycle in, you'll be knocking on PRs door.  Agree  with Baboon, got to get  some real food to counteract the gels. Pretzels, bagel, are good. A little more water too, probably didn't get quite enough in with the gels-hard to do in a race.

                        GEH: Nice work!

CY: I gel up before, and will probably sports drink it at 6 this year.

ZZ: Hoping for the same thing this weekend.  Slow winning time last year, small race, I might get the podium, depends on who shows up?  I emailed the RD and we have a bike escort, so shouldn't go off course.  Got to love those bike escorts if you are leading.
