Ha. Well perhaps one of my problems is that I have been completely ignoring the alternate week LR schedule, and doing one every week. And in fact the last 4 weeks it has been 17-18, despite the fact they are supposed to max out at 16. Virtually impossible to get the kind of weekly mileage I was looking to do without the LR. Tomorrow is my first "strength" workout, 6 x 1 mile at GMP-10. Curious to see how it goes. I always thought the MP-10 was a strange pace, in between MP & HMP. I may just try to do it at GHMP if possible, to see how it feels, since I have a HM planned in a couple weeks. I think I am turning into Lily and say I'm following a plan, and then just do whatever the hell I want anyway.

Well, Lily's plan (not like she's following it), has strength listed as current HMP. That's also what I did throughout my last marathon cycle. So I bet you could go with either, depending on how you're feeling.
The Hokas last up to 1000 miles. There are some issues with certain people and the Cliftons but it's not a usual experience. I think there are some items in this shoe that they need to improve because they are using a different upper and lower than the other Hokas. ETA, my Cliftons look as good as new and I'm past the mileage these people have had problems.

Yeah I was not speaking of a particular brand just ultra shoes in general, but doing a little research would not be uncommon for that or any type of shoe be it a maximum shoe, daily trainer or racing flat.
Thankfully my modest mileage and aversion to running super long should preclude me from the need to jump into any of that, as if I do not have enough crap to think about.
race obsessed
Having transitioned from Kayano and then having to run in them on one run several months later, if the Hoka are any less responsive I couldn't imagine them being any less appealing.
(nice run on sentence for you critiques)
Speaking of response... I think ill aim for a HM in the Fastwitch, around September 21. It should let me know if they will work for my marathon.
Baboon when was yours?
Thanks for the tip. I have never seen this plan, only the ones in the book, I was curious about how it differs from the Advanced. I think the book indicates that MP-10 is about HMP if your are fast enough. (Maybe that is the case for you?) But not sure why they don't set strength pace at HMP for everyone, it seems like it should be doable. I will not actually know my true HMP for a couple weeks: the one I have was set <4 months ago, but is pretty soft..

My ears are ringing. I wonder why... Anyway, I just finished work. Got my shorts on. Ten miles to come and it's hot as hell here. See you all later!

Hokas are the best! All of them! You won't feel the weight of any of their shoes. I have the Cliftons, they are a bit lighter than the regular Hokas. Try them! I usually do my MLR in Hokas and I feel like I have not run at all when I am done. I can do up to MP or even faster in them (but I wouldn't use them for speedwork or short races).
I wear ASICS and I hate Hokas. Hokas don't work well with fat...

I fixed your typo.

8.1 miles with 10x1000 done this afternoon. First time trying the strides on the treadmill -- I just alternated between the 7.6 mph and 6 mph, switching every 30 seconds. It felt similar to the track workout, but a little more complicated with watching the clock and remembering to push the buttons.
I've never tried hokas, but I know some people absolutely swear by them. I've been having really good luck with my brooks glycerins -- getting at least 800 miles, before they get converted to walking and gardening shoes. So I figure if its not broke, not going to fix it.
Also, "pulled a Lily" made me laugh.
Life is good.

Are you just testing to see if we are paying attention?

But they do work fast. Ask my fast friends who use them and still BQ in them.
5 miles and heavy weights. I almost choked on dewpoint during the run and my lungs closed. Bah. On top of that, stupid Garmin will not upload the workout. That has happened three times in the last 10 days. I wrote Garmin an email about Garmin Express (which I think it's the guilty party). Not holding my breath.

Overachiever!
Well it could have been 1000's, I was just double-checking more or less.
