I have also been told by non runners that running will make your facial skin sag.
Then I am consistenly told that i look in my early 40's as opposed to my early 50's.....

OH MY GOD! That is SO HORRIBLE! How could you SAY that to someone?! Especially since there is no medical evidence that running would do any of that stuff.....

Oh yes, the "your uterus will fall out" warning is a common one.
Rubbish. If running caused one's uterus to fall out, do you think the health insurance companies would pay for surgical hysterectomy? They'd issue you a pair of running shoes and require you to run around the track until you were officially dewombed.

There's something about pregnancy that apparently negates your rights to privacy and gives everyone (strangers included) license to comment on your health/lifestyle and give unsolicited advice.

That's funny, last spring on the trail I got passed by a very close to being due pregnant lady and I joked with her that it was really sad that I was so slow for pace, that I got passed by a baby! She said "Dont worry, next year he'll be in a stroller and you can pass him!"

I hear the usual
bad for my knees.
bad for my hips.
will make me old looking in the face(I guess the wind and sun makes us look a certain way).
will make me look like an emaciated Kenyan.
Nobody mentions the one thing it DOES do, makes me sleep less. Gotta get up and run those miles before the kids get up! That part, I could do without!

So runners..... just curious, what are some of the craziest things people have felt the need to inform you will happen to your body because of running??? Over Christmas my grandma told me that me running terrifies her and she is scared I will damage my heart and lungs (I run 11 minute miles, hardly think that is going to happen!) Then this weekend, those that read either daily threads may have heard about my doctor not even wanting to discuss my knee/possible ITB pain once he found out that I ran and lectured me on how running is just awful for my body and I should stop immediately and no one should ever run if they care about themselves. And TODAY a co-worker (who does have a medical background) told me if I keep running then when I get older my UTERUS WILL FALL OUT! She told me to look up "uterine prolapse" to find out the horrors of what will happen to my body if I continue running. I did, in fact, look it up. It didn't list running as a risk factor but it DID list OBESITY as a risk factor and suggests obese women who have had this should exercise and lose weight. Hmm....sounds like kind of the opposite. And I've gotten warnings about saggy boobs, and several about bad knees. So just curious as to some of the "warnings" you have received. Anyone else told their UTERUS would FALL OUT or anything as crazy??

SAGGY BOOBS!!!? Hell I don't even look like I was ever pregnant and breastfeeding, AND I think I have smaller boobs than before I got pregnant! My grandmother (now 76) asked me back in 2011 if I thought she could do a half marathon........................... I laughed nervously and said with proper training I am sure you could run/walk it.

I've DEFINITELY been told that my uterus will fall out, especially when people find out that I am continuing to run for as long as I can through this pregnancy. My MIL is one of the loudest objectors.
It's funny, because when I was around 10 weeks I got REALLY bloated and had a big round belly, and then I went for a long run of around 9 miles that weekend, which just happened to coincide with relief from the bloating and a noticeable reduction in the belly. So the running joke around my house was that MIL was right and my uterus really HAD fallen out along the way.

I've already been told the usual, to watch out for my knees. I have problems with my knees (born with some ligaments double the length they should be) and they dislocate easily. I haven't had a problem since I started running, they feel a lot stronger. Still crunch when I do squats though.
My pulmonoligist warned me NOT to stop running for these recurring spots on my lungs.

I haven't been running but about 18 months and I'm in my 50s. I've heard all the knee stuff. Didn't know about the other issues.
Funny thing, my dad had a knee replaced some 15+ years ago, and my mother had a double knee replacement about 10 years ago. If my knees have problems in the future, I don't think I'd be going out on a limb (no pun intended) if I claimed that any knee issues were heridetary. After all, I did have some annoying knee pains from time to time back when I was squatting somewhat heavy (for me, heavy). Not so with running so far.
Maybe I'm just lucky....

My parents informed me that marathon runners die young so if I kept running I could DIE. And that was after I signed up for my first 5K I think.

I'm pretty sure the whole human species would have died out many thousands of years ago if a little bit of physical activity a few times a week caused spontaneous uterus loss.
I am a little disappointed that I have never gotten any creative or interesting warnings. Just knees, knees, knees. Actually I had knee problems starting when I was 8. By the time I was in college I was certain I was destined for surgery or something, because I could barely kneel down without a lot of pain. Then when I was 23 I started running... turns out that was the cure.
