That's a fantastic time, Dan. Particularly in light of what your ortho told you last year. You've got some real speed there, and plenty of reason to be proud of your achievement.

I know what you mean about low mileage and being concerned about performance. It wasn't until a week or so before my first half that I knew I had a chance to break 2 hours. I was also running around 30 mile weeks, and only had 3 or 4 runs of 12 miles or more prior to that race. I knew I had the distance, but I was very unsure of the time.

      Congratulations again!

Congrats! That's an amazing debut despite low mileage and not many long runs! You're going to be a stellar runner in a few more cycles!

dan- great job man. I knew you had some wheels from your postings in the past and 5k RRs from RWOL. I hadnt seen much from you lately and I am glad to see that your speed has carried over to a longer distance. keep up the solid work.

            Go figure

Great effort, and time too...especially if you had some training struggles with it.  Nice job hanging in there towards the end when it started to get tough, and giving a little kick too.  I know you enjoy your 5ks, but it must have felt really good doing something different and being so successful with it.  Congrats.

Melanie - Thanks. You have improved greatly over the last year. I hope you half training is going well for you.

Gustav - No marathon plans for this year. A lot of 5ks, a 10k, and a half in November.

Damaris - In early December I thought I was proving the ortho right, but the new shoes helped me a lot.

Baboon - Yes. Everything seems easy until the final three. Next time I will be better trained though and hopefully not slow down in miles 11 and 12.

Misty - I am going to be excited for you too when you kill your marathon this month. You have been training hard, and it will show up.

Tom - Your times have improved a lot over the last year. I was a little worried about my mileage, but the weather was perfect. That helped. 40 degrees for the start of the race.

T-rod - I am still around. I am just not posting much anymore.

TheBanshee - I should be better trained next time. i am going to try to get my mileage base to the upper 20's/ low 30's which will make it easier to step up if I want to do another longer race.

Yes, as I mentioned post race (when I could breathe). Damn fine debut, and you pushed me to a faster race than I had intended which was a good thing. Camaraderie and competition help greatly to leave everything on the course.

                        Congrats.

You ran a great race and left it all out at the end. Congrats. You earned it.

Docs are not always right.  IMHO, they give their opinion to you based on their experience not with just you individually but probably also with their own patient experience with patients that may have similar situations as you.  So that was just his diagnosis on what he felt was probably right for you.  However, again IMHO, only YOU really know what your personal 'limit' is, cuz it's YOUR body and you're the one that will be "feeling it all" out there.   Glad you found out you were stronger than he thinks and hope it stays that way for you for a long long time!

After having "heard" you over the past few months, I am so, so, so happy that YOU are happy with the way this race turned out.  That is the most important thing, beyond your time, your AG placement, your splits, blah blah.  People can run an awesome/fast race, and be unhappy about it, or run a crappy race but still be proud.   You managed to not only run a fantastic race, but to also be happy with the outcome - and deservedly so.    Very happy for you, Dan.  *hugs*  (Whoops, sorry.  No hugs! Hearty handshake!)

Slow and steady wins the....  wait a second! I've been lied to!
