Good morning Monday Dailies (Read 23 times)

    Poolmix warmup.

    Race reflections:

Hadn’t done a real race in the last five years [aka had been only race in 15years]; and had only ever done one jumbo sized race, the MCM 2000.  Odd part is I felt perfectly comfortable being there, except for the first 3/4 of a mile when I had the “ WTF am I doing here?” sensation.  I felt like I was running wicked slow, over 14 minute mile pace.  I missed seeing the mile 1 marker and when I got to mile 2 marker I was absolutely convinced that they had screwed up and miss placed the marker as I was there just a shade over 24 minutes.  I had started the race in the very far back of the pack, but it wasn’t jammed up at all.

I was still a bit confused at mile 3 marker, then finally at mile 4 marker I realize that I was actually going at very good clip for me.  Totally zoned for most of the rest of the race.  The only difficult part were the water stops where a a lot of folks were doing diagonals and even right angle walks to and from the water stops; I literally bumped in the people while I was trying to run through.  It was only at 8.5mi when I started hitting walking/limping traffic.

Yesterday was a total max effort start to finish for my legs.

The good news is the right ham/adductor was only wicked tight/sore for a few hours after the race, and is feeling only a tiny tight this morning. Back on May 1, 2022 I ran a 5k fun run on right hand road crown and had to take weeks off because of the ham/adductor…. So I’m real happy with yesterday.

Tomorrow another pool mix, run Wednesday.

Daffy - sometimes zoning out in a race can be a good thing, especially if your pace stays constant while doing it.  I'm glad it was a good race for you.

Due to scheduling issues, I moved my track day up from Tuesday to today.  3 x 2 miles with 800m recoveries.  11½ miles on the day.  The main thing of note was the temp of 44º, which meant I had to dig out my gloves.  I ran the intervals in just a long sleeved shirt, but had a t-shirt on top of that for the warmup and cool down.

      5k 23:48.45 (3/22); 4M 31:26 (2/22); 5M 38:55 (11/23); 10k 49:24 (10/22);
      10M 1:29:33 (2/24); Half 1:48:32 (10/22); Marathon 4:29:58 (11/23)

      Upcoming races: Scotch Plains 5k, 6/12; Firecracker 4-miler, 7/4

Morning! 5 and Pilates. The 5 will depend on whether I get pain. Weather is gorgeous but debating whether outside or inside in case I have to stop. In any event, I can stay nearby while running too.

But first, brunch with Marymary611, for those that remember the RW forums!

A couple runs of a little over 5k this weekend. Both had 22 minutes of continuous running. Progress is slow but I am progressing.

This will be run as 3:50 pacer. I’m only assigned the first half, but if I’m feeling OK, I’m going to try to finish. We’ll see what part my back plays in all this.

Speaking of things going in the opposite direction of back health, I’m heading to the airport later this morning on a business trip to North Dakota, of all places. Not super excited, but it’s a state I’ve never been to so at least I’ll be able to check it off my list. States that will remain:

              South Dakota

              Nebraska

              Kansas

              Mississippi

              Maine

MTA: oh yeah, I ran 6 miles this morning.

Thanksgiving over here! We celebrated yesterday with the extended family so rest day today although I need to work off the turkey.

I've got huge race fomo going after reading about all the past weekend races and Freep is next weekend. So I think I need to find a race.

Daffy, congrats again on your race. I think zoning out is an excellent goal during a race. Hope your hammy stays calm

Ooh nice! I've actually run races in both Kansas and Maine.

I'll be checking off Colorado from my list next weekend (like most people, I don't count airports...I've flown through Denver before).

7 miles. I keep getting excited for it to be cold but no dice. 65F with 95% humidity so not awful but not lovely Fall yet.

Daffy: Congrats on your race! And good to hear you aren't too sore.

While didn’t breath that hard during the race, I felt flushed or something like I over taxed the cardio… still felt like that this morning but looked in the mirror and I was just a little  sun burnt😂

all my runs are almost entirely dense shade😛

'Morning!  Day off from work.  I slept in, then ran 5 easy miles on the track followed by a 3 mile dog walk.  Got a bike workout to tackle later.

I've got a HM Saturday.  I should add that to the race thread...
