Fear is a Liar

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." WinkIt can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

I'm so vegetarian I don't even eat animal crackers!

    Dad on the run.

Good Morning Gustav, Thanks for getting us started.

Helping a friend move today, then I'm coming home and going to get me a run in this beautiful 68 degree weather we are going to have today. Then perhaps takes the dogs out to the field near our house and let them just run buck wild. They havent got much play time in this week Sad poor guys and Carter's energy is wound up like a drum about ready to explode, lol.

Last night was so much fun. Some buddies of mine and myself went out to Buffalo Wild Wings and over indulged ourselves in some fantastic food. We started off with jalapeno poppers and fried pickles, followed by 50 hot wings, basket of fries and basket of onion rings and shared 2 pitchers of beer.

No run for me today. We did a 7 mile tempo last night and are hoping for 11 or 12 tomorrow. Now it's off to UCSD for our son's 19th b-day. We will take him to lunch and get him some things at Costco and/or Target. Have a nice day.

Morning! 3.5 done, off to the tournament and then 3.5 when I get home.  If anyone is bored and interested, you can watch a live stream of the event here.  We're team 997, one of the climbing specialists.  But there are some awesome frisbee throwers too.  And some rock em sock em as they try to block each others' shots.

Jimmy- Glad you had a good time!  I don't think I'd want to run for a while after that spread!

                  Kristin- Have fun!

                  Tori- Have a great run!

D- Hope you feel better and have a good time at the BBQ.

                    Fear is a Liar

                      Good morning Penguins!

Looks like we have a lot of sleepy heads today!

Anyway just got back from a 7 mile LR - a new mileage goal since I've made my comeback. Unfortunately this cold is still a bit of a hindrance. I feel about 85% better but from what I hear even when I feel 100% my body will still be doing germ control. But then again, I'm sure running over 40 miles during the course of this sickness didn't help either.

I'm so vegetarian I don't even eat animal crackers!

                      Return To Racing

4.5 @ 10:05.  Cold and rainy, so we postponed LR again.  Now for a sardine sandwich for lunch.

Don't forget to turn your clocks ahead at 2:00 a.m.  Hope the FR10 does this by itself.

                        SheCan

                          Morning friends and penguins!

Jblack-  glad you had a good time.  You needed something to relax your mind and spirit.  Can't hardly look at the pics though or I'll be wanting it all.

Kristin--- hope you and your friend have a wonderful time today!

Tori--- 40s is a heat wave?  Brrrrr...... glad I'm not where you are!

Docket-  have fun at the BBQ!

Jack-- enjoy your time with you son.

Gustav-  glad you're feeling somewhat better.   Wow@ your mileage.  I didn't realize you'd already pushed yourself up to that many miles each week.

Jerry-  good job on the miles!  I didn't even know anyone ate sardines now days!

I did an easy 5-1/2 and it felt cold (in the 40's not heatwave conditions here by any means!  :-P  Tori)  Just gonna take it easy today.  Hope everyone who raced today kicked arse!

Jerry--I love turning the clocks ahead for the added daylight but I sure hate losing an hour of sleep!

                            Sloooow.

                              Checking in!

Fight for Air Walk/Run this morning. Seems like it wasn't a set distance, as all walkers did one lap of the park (1 1/4 mile). Only about 10 people out of 200 ran, and as my partner decided to tag along, he watched the kids while I did. I did 2 laps in 28 minutes, 2.45 miles. My total for the week is 12.9 miles, my best ever! My longest run was only 3 miles, but I ran 5 days. Is it better to run more, shorter runs, or less, longer runs?

One week until my next 5K, and I'm HOPING for 36:something. My PR is 37:20.

Coralie, I think probably running more often in the beginning is best--- to an extent.  Simply because it gets your body used to the daily activity and able to handle more.  Though in reality it's probably more hand in and hand.  Your body also needs more days off in the early stages of running to heal.  So like working up to the number of days you want to run (for now)  and then slowly adding mies.  Does that make sense?  Anyway that's how I did it and I'm still running years later.

And Tori, I hope spring is around the corner for you!  It is wonderful when it comes.
