Mary Cain...remember her name. Arguably the best high school runner in U.S. history and just ran a 4:04.62 1500 meters at the Oxy meet tonight. She just turned 17 on May 3rd and has done nothing but get faster and faster with every race she has run the past year.
4:05:50 is the "A" standard for the World Championships this year in Moscow. Damn.
I just did a little research and from what I could tell the next fastest U.S. girls high school time for the 1500m is 4:14.74*. Ever. Wow.
*Cain did run a 4:10 at the Drake Relays this April.

Yes, she's a freak! Can you imagine what she'll do at the 2016 Olympics?
Randy
Alberto started coaching her after the Olympics.
Are we there, yet?

She won't be unattached for long!
Hip Redux
I've watched a few of her races. She's looks all of a gangly, awkward teenager but MAN can she fly!
Fear is a Liar
Does "unattached" mean she's single or doesn't have any sponsors yet?

6 people broke the meet record. That's freakin nuts. That race would have been fun to watch and I am sure the finish was outstanding.

rather be sprinting
Yeah, I noticed her form seemed less economical than it could be (esp arm swing?), but she certainly gets results. Wowza.

Maybe she can't as a HS girl. I wonder who is paying Alberto then, (obviously he isn't hurting for $) unless he isn't charging her.
I believe he is "consulting" her and not being paid. And you're right, I'm sure he isn't too worried about the $ right now. What will be interesting is what she decides to do after high school.
Love her smile!
