A 5:00 pace is 200 meters in 37 seconds. If you think you can run that fast, go to your next 5K and mark off 200 meters from the finish.
I think you misinterpreted what I was saying. Trying to hold a set pace from point A to point B is one thing, running that same pace for a portion of a lap is another.
Running at 5:00 pace in either the beginning (going out too fast), or end (during your kick) of a race or lap is not a super human feat. It would not show up in your final pace time for the lap distance obviously because you would not have held it for the full lap.
And the strength/length of your final kick is usually relative to the distance being raced, be that 3.1, 6.2, 13.1 or 26.2 miles.
Team TJ
Nice race, Dan!
Running for TJ because he can't.
Congrats, Dan. They are definitely tougher in the heat.
Look, I get that most of us could probably run a sub 5:00 pace for a short distance. I question whether we can do it at the end of a race no matter how hard we think we are running unless it's the case of someone who just ran sort of hard rather than all out for the race. I also learned to question the reliability of a Garmin over short distances the first time it said my fastest pace during a run was 3:35.
Short term goal: 17:59 5K
Mid term goal: 2:54:59 marathon
Long term goal: To say I've been a runner half my life. (I started running at age 45).
From that tumblr link that FS posted a few weeks back:
How you feel when you're in your final kick at a race:
How you actually look:
At least, DH, has gotten a few videos of me finishing a HM and that seems pretty accurate.

Or sometimes you don't care enough anymore and are just dragging your ass to the finish-line until some dude comes flying next to you with his headphones blaring trying to pass you and in an instant you magically find that second gear. lol
Or just flip that person the double bird.
Personal Bests:
800M - 2:38 (5/28/13) | 1 Mile -5:54 (5/28/13) | 3K - 11:55 (12/29/12) | 2M - 13:00 (12/1/12) | 5K - 20:00 (4/12/13) | 13.1M - 1:37:24 (2/3/13)
I look like I am trying to do kung fu when I near the finish line.
That's a nice pic! We can see how you were feeling.

I think that's the "Thank you sir.....May I have another!" face, no?
Well done!

Channeling Bruce Lee.
race obsessed
That's what my DD would call 'race hands'.
Sweep the leg!
Improve your aerodynamics and shave the head. Clearly a lot of drag created by your do.

I see your shirt is properly untucked. Good job.
