Happy to be running

That's awesome Dave! Great job! I bet you would have went sub 20 if you started up front.

Fastest penguin on the planet. Congrats to you. To run a 20Tight lippedx without any speedwork is JUST CRAZY. Think how much faster you will get! Congrats on the weight loss. You are looking super fly

Thanks Pink, hopefully in two weeks, gonna try again on the 15th. Smile

LRB, it's crazy, I almost don't believe it myself.  But something I've said throughout my fitness journey holds true, anything is possible with time and determination.

Happy, thanks!  I think so too, it was a horrible start, felt more like an obstacle course than a 5k.  Definitely getting up front for my next one.

Thanks Traci!  The local club folks I met were a little surprised to find out that I've only been running for 8 months and that I haven't done any speedwork.  I still love my long runs, but I think I may have to see how far I can go with the 5K too.  It's a weird race, totally sucks while you're doing it, but it's short enough that it doesn't affect your whole day, you can race a 5k in the morning and then still get stuff done, I like that.

          Thanks MJ! Smile

Thanks Nevr, I'm extremely happy with my progress.  At first I was slightly disappointed, but then I had to remind myself that it was still a 5+min PR, and then I saw that I won my AG and you couldn't get the smile off my face...still smiling now. Smile

                  Thanks baboon!

Thanks Damaris!  Still not sure if I like the long race or the short race better, guess I'll have to keep trying both to make sure. Smile

                  Pura Vida

Congratulations, Dave!  Sounds like you ran a great race!  How funny that you didn't trust yourself to line up as close to the front as you deserved!  I bet the running club took note of you for sure- sounds like you'll have somebody to run with but also maybe a friendly rivalry for future races?

I'm also wondering if maybe having lost weight is a good thing for runners?  I mean, it takes a lot of leg strength to carry around extra pounds, you know?  So even if it wasn't so visible under the fat (and in my case, water retention, yuk!), maybe overweight people actually have pretty muscular legs.  So by starting to run while still losing, maybe that encourages our body to hold on the the muscles that we used to need to carry the extra weight.

Anyway, just a theory.  But it kinda makes sense, I think.

Very nice!  And what a transformation.  Congrats on both accomplishments!  That sub-20 is close.

Maybe Zelanie. I trained with an extra 70 pounds to start, and I have gotten pretty fast too.

Thanks Zel!  Yeah, definitely won't make that mistake again.  Part of me was thinking it wouldn't be a big deal, since it's chip timed, but then I realized how much slower the pack was moving, and the start of the race was on a wide sidewalk with benches and trees on the sides, so it was very difficult to pass people.  Definitely an interesting theory on leg strength.

Kristin, thanks!! Smile  Hopefully on the 15th, we'll see.

Kristy, thanks!  They really are, it's nice getting a finisher's medal, but this being my first personal award, it's definitely extra special.

Brenda, thanks!  Yeah, I will definitely be getting up front at my next race!
