Wanted to get a back bib that said " Swampers, aka RA's, pick me up if I'm dragging!" but my daughters had a little melt down and we had to leave the expo or risk catastrophic consequences.
Any idea how soon before 7:30 people should line up. If I remember 2 years ago, the shute was packed and difficult to get pass the 5+ hour groups. Being a relative newbie, I haven't got the timing of last water closet break and lining up down yet.
Good luck tomorrow, and remember, this is ALL FUN!

tmcna,
If you see a girl with pink tank and white sunglasses around the 4:30 group, that is probably bugs. Say hi.
My thighs felt warm (inflammed) on the way to Duluth. Not the bestest feeling for tomorrow.
Good luck everyone.
Ouch.
Fail.
Good Bad & The Monkey
I'm running somewhere tomorrow. It's going to be beautiful. I can't wait.
Poor baby
Who said my name when I was turning the corner before the last corner before the finish??
You may or may not have gotten some kind of death look from me. I was trying to wait to pass out and go into convulsions until crossing the finish line... which I was sucessful in doing that at least.
I think anyone who crossed the finish line shouldn't claim "fail". It was a bitch.
This heat stuff in marathons is getting really old. I'm over it.
4:10:58 BQ (I'm old and female)
Out there running since dinosaurs roamed the earth
Wow Candice. Glad you're okay.
I take heat pretty good. For me it was injury issues, and then my quads tightened up. It was just not enough running before hand. My muscles just got tight from such a drastic jump in running time. Finish 4:41, and I humbly say that was hard, too hard. I feel sorry for those marathon runners in the upper fours and five hours. Some digging deep back there, didn't look like anyone was having fun.
HStreet,
Great work on acheiving your BQ. That's extra exciting on a tough day. I really had no business running the entire course that day. It took a fair amount of guts and stupidity to start it, but it worked out okay.
It was nice to meet you. Feel extra bad for runners that traveled so far to run and then the weather did not pan out.
Trent,
Good job on pushing through on a tough day. Good luck with the BQ effort this fall. Better third times a charm. Sorry I did not meet you.
Candice,
There is suppose to be a Mankato marathon next year. Not sure if you like small ones. I think I might run it if it's in the fall and has a good course. I would like to train for a race where I could run train on the course. Good Luck with your racing. You're one of my heros.
I'm not running Grandmas again. Too hot. I do like it because it tends to be a big party weekend with friends. I am switching to shorter races for a while just because if something goes wrong, injury or ilness you can postpone easier.

Nice! I have nothing against small marathons, I've just never ran many of them. I'd like to. I might definitely have to check this Mankato one out. 2010 for sure?
And thanks, you're my hero too....that was some brave shit you pulled. I could never do that.
MTA: Good luck with your racing too! (and your healing)

If this is what a marathon is like then you can count me out for good. I told my wife right after the race that it was one of the most painful and stupid things I have ever done and will never do a marathon again. After I was able to put some fluids back into my body and relieve some of my pain I have changed my mind but will never run Grandma's Full Marathon again. That heat sucks...I wanted anything under 4 and ended up with a 4:23...good enough for conditions I guess.
Bugs - You will have to keep us posted about that Mankato Marathon. I would definitely do that one if it were on a good weekend and they could turn down the wind a little bit.
Ouch. I have never experienced a full body cramp before. Calves, hamstrings, glutes and lower back all at the same time. Had to walk it in from mile 23. Walked backwards for 100 yards, which actually relieved the cramps. Man, that was brutal! I was extremely dehydrated despite drinking about 3-4 cups of water at every station. Hope everyone out there is recovering!
