I started the Low Heart Rate training today. Will it hurt my training progress to run in the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot (8 miles, Dallas) with my kids? I will probably have to run above 130 bpm to keep up with them.

That all depends on where you are at. If you're healthy and progressing in your aerobic speed, the race will probably do nothing more than give you something to recover from. If you're in a sorry state of aerobic fitness, a race could cause a little regression--might not. Call it an experiment and live with the results. If you race, have fun and enjoy the experience!
