I will be at a conference in Charlottesville VA (the Darden School at UVA) for the week of May 21 to May 25. Does anybody know what running is like around there? Would it be a good idea to rent a car to get to places for running or is there quite a bit right around campus?
Are any of my fellow RA masters in the area who want to get together for a run?

Trails are hard!
This would be a job for Peter.
the only place I get to run around there these days is a .8 mile loop around the hotel complex that we stay at north of Charlotte. PRETTY sure that's not what you're looking for.
Need a fast half for late fall. Then I need to actually train for it.

Let me get back to you. My daughter's boyfriend is a grad. student at UVA (was undergrad as well). She is in C-ville every other weekend. And she runs. Sadly, they will be in Europe the week you are in town.More later.
I have been to UVA many times. The campus is lovely. Not as beautiful as Virginia Tech... but lovely just the same. Here are good places for you to start looking for a running route.

Wrong state, Kevin.
ooops.....missed the "ville" at the end.
But maybe Peter has been there?
Twocat, you might send a PM to Mamaofthree who posts in the main forums. She lives in Charlottesville.
Be safe. Be kind.

Ha! Good save.
Twocat, you are going to a pretty little city. I doubt you will need a car to find a good running route and there are a lot of runners in that town and folks are generally friendly.
I wish you your conference was at the "college down the road" so that I could show you our running routes. You will be at the school built by Thomas Jefferson. http://www.virginia.edu/uvatours/shorthistory/
We live near his alma mater.

It will probably be quite humid and warm, so bring wicking clothes! ha ha
At this point I am pretty sure that I will be driving down. If have a friend in DC I am hoping to see for lunch and if I can arrange it I would like to see her. So how far away is WM from UVA?
Twocat,
WM is about 2 hours from UVA. You just take 64 East. But it can be frustrating if you hit Richmond at the wrong time. There is a bypass with 264 that does not add much time to the trip.
But it is not worth the extra driving to visit W&M unless you have a few days, I think.
There is a "thing" about UVA. They have a rivalry with both WM and VT. The custom is for folks from UVA to not even say the name of WM, so they say, "The school down the road" . I think they might use that term for Virginia Tech, too.
W&M folks do not say UVA either. They say "The school up the road"
