Okay, I'm cheating again, starting the daily from Thailand.  We'll be heading home in 2 days, so I won't get many more chances to be up before Jay!

It's mid afternoon here already.  I got up early and went for a run, and actually found a dirt road!  First non-pavement run in Thailand.  I ran out to a lovely deserted beach on the north end of Ko Yao Noi Island.  We went out there for 3 days, and stayed in a charming little bamboo bungalow across from the ocean.  Tough life, I know...   I'll be back to the cold and snow all too soon.

Holly, I loved the picture of your DD yesterday.  She's growing up so fast - enjoy it while you can!  And good luck with the marriage issues.  Good marriages take work, and even the best ones have their ups and downs.  And a big key is marrying the right person.  I'm lucky to be married to a supportive spouse, even if he's a non-runner.  I just signed up for a 50 mile race, and although he'd rather I didn't, I'd given him plenty of warning that I probably would someday, so he's actually pretty okay with it.  Whew!

Happy Thursday, and happy trails to all of you!

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

Still on the other side of the world, Wild?  Glad your having a good time.  If I am away from home more than a week it wears me out.  I just don't sleep as good when I'm traveling.

I went to the gym this morning.  TM warmup and then some weights.  Nothing special.

Speaking of traveling, I finalized the arrangements for Tallahassee.  15 days until I leave.  Maybe I'll scout out some possible places to live down there.

Good morning, WC and Dave, and the rest to follow!

I'm glad you are having such a great time in Thailand, WC!

Good for you for getting to the gym early, Dave.

Last night's meeting was a 3-hour slog. It wasn't my meeting, so I had no control over the proceedings. At times, I felt sorry for the Chair because it seemed to be beyond his control as well. I tried to be quick and efficient in my portions of the meeting, but that didn't help a whole lot. So, once again, I got home late, had to spend some time calming down, and got to bed way too late to get up early for a workout today. Thankfully, I have no more evening meetings this week. But I do have an 8:30 this morning, so I'm outta here!

        Have a greta Thursday!

        Trails are hard!

Good morning (or afternoon, as the case maybe) all.  Killing a bit of time until staff meeting.

Glad you're enjoying Thailand, Wild.  We went to visit BIL and family 20 years ago and had a great time.  Always nice having local guides and see a little beyond the normal tourist stuff.  I'm sure it won't be TOO much of shock to be back in the mountains shortly.

Just under 4 miles for me this morning.  Nice and foggy and right around freezing.  Found a few slippery spots, but fortunately only one on initial plant.  Probably only slid about an inch, but even that miniscule bit of time allowed for quite a flash of panic.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

SteveP, you are one cool grandpa.

Holly, adorable picture! Your DD is as gorgeous as you are.

              Wildchild, welcome back.

I woke up today to go for a run, but my body was tired, wondering why I looked at my running log and found out that I have been running every day for 24 days, plus doing at least 2 hours of XT every week, so my body was just telling me that we needed a total rest today. I finished a book I was reading instead. Good peaceful morning.

How about that globetrotter Wild in Thailand!  Bring us back some food.

If things don't work out for Holly, I'm at the front of the line, just so everybody knows.  Once you go old, you'll never be cold, or something like that.

Sick and tired of being sick and tired. First that cold, then the fatigue that followed it, then all this anxiety over the biopsy. So today I dusted myself off and drove out to the Lake and ran 20 slow miles on a gorgeous day. So there.  Spareribs

                  holly, darling daughter!

lamerunner, that ribs thing sounds terrible.  reminds me of when I had pleurisy (sounds similar).

dave59, sure hope you are better soon.

3.25 miles on the treadmill for me.  zoned out, but no close calls... but I was doing an easy 9:30 pace and no speed work mixed in.

I missed my run yesterday.  I've been having a hard time with depression lately, and while I know getting out there IS helpful, I just couldn't muster up the energy.  i'm blaming it all on my age (perimenopause is the DEVIL).  they tried me on a low dose of Zoloft but it gave me horrible migraines.  as to husbands, mine is wisely keeping his distance... and he wouldn't dare touch the remote!  oh, and the vodka goes in the freezer next to the reese's cups.

goodness is its own reward; for more tangible outcomes, you need to try badness.

20 miles around lake grapevine ... my, that does sound lovely.  nice job, ribs!

The 2" of snow on the ground and continued falling makes me like Thailand a whole lot. Enjoy the rest of the stay Wild.

You're a patient man Jay. 3 hours of BS would have me climbing walls (or playing Angry Birds on my phone but I've never ever done that in boring meetings. Nope. Not me). Oh and I forgot from a while back. Nicely done on the present for your wife.

Florida sounds nice Dave. I get to go there on biz.... IN JULY! Man my timing is way off.

Tadpole - now that's funny right there.

No idea what my Indian name would be but likely something odd. My Indiana name is Norm though.

20 miles on a Thursday Ribs. Yowza.

A little over 6 recovery miles and now off to shovel the driveway. I kid you not. My snow shovel (its a dozer type) is 1/3 gone already. Usually these things last decades and Mine gets a couple of years.

Nice pic of your daughter Holly. Brings back memories of mine playing clarinet as well. Now she listens to some awful pop music even with my best efforts to get her to listen to classic rock or classical. Boys like it but not her. Ah well. Thankfully she uses headphones so I don't have to listen to One Direction et al

                        Cheers.

Spareribs that is some way to work of whatever ails you!  Wow.  Plus I wish I could say the same about the weather here.

For the various RA friends bummed out about something try to remember we are descended from social animals.  That is a pretty antiseptic way to say your brain has been setup to value social interaction above all else.  Isolation can only make being bummed worse.  Studies on happiness pretty consistently show that the number one factor is the strength of the person's social network.  Do you see people every day?  Are you close?  Do you engage with others in activities you enjoy?  The more people answer yes to these and related questions the happier they are.  Your social life trumps wealth and even health to a large degree.  Indeed if you take two people with the same physical conditions (say arthritis of the knee) the one with the stronger social interactions will feel healthier and be happier.  A double win!  So if you are bummed about something get out there and socialize!  You will feel way better.  Plus it is free and no drugs are required.  Although I suppose some could be involved but I am not sure they would involve a prescription.

I went off for an 11 mile run along a new route cobbled together from a bunch of my old routes.  That was a good pick for this cold and clammy day.  What was a bad pick was my subsequent attempt to do a tempo run.  I got to the 1.75 mile mark out of 5 and had to pack it in.  I am now 0 for 3 in my attempts to get to 5.  How do you all do tempo runs?    Yea, put me in a HM and I can run my target tempo pace for 13.1 miles.  Wake me up, send me out for a random run and nothing!

I found an easy way to make 800 bucks donating stem cells......first with some injections over 4 days to increase the number (and you can feel a bit sick during this) and then a 3-4 hour apheresis procedure.  Not sure all of this is worth it....but if I lose my job.....sign me up!  Never thought I could make money selling my body at this age......heh.
