I was planning to run a 50 mile race in upstate NY this weekend, but it did not work out, unfortunately, So I ended up with a strange week, where I was tapering Mon-Fri and then switched back to my regular programming on Sat and Sunday.
Sorry to hear the 50 miler didn't work out. Will you be able to find another race to run to take advantage of the training you put in?
Last week:
Wed: 4 miles
Thurs: 3 miles
Fri: 4 miles
Sun: 16.4 miles
TOTAL: 27.4
All road miles this past week, but the country roads where I ran my long run has a gravel/packed dirt shoulder for much of it, so I would run on that whenever possible. It got hot quick on Sunday and was well over 80 by the time I got done.
This week is just terrible for temps. 100-115 every day. Yesterday was 110. I'll just do what I can do.

Alexander - Sorry the race didn't work out for you. Anything else coming up?
Tammy - Those are some brutal temps for running in. Good luck.
Another week down and suddenly I'm 1/3 of the way done with the training plan (6 of 18 weeks). I'm still doing the 5k ParkRuns, but not at full effort; mostly I go because it gets other family members out with me. This week was notable for me as I passed 200 hours run so far this year. 49.4 miles in the books for me and hopefully I'll break 50 this week.

ETA: I got my email yesterday from the NYRR asking me to select my transportation, bib pickup, and bag check options. This makes the race seem suddenly closer. It also, in a roundabout way, confirmed I made the cut for wave 2, which I was hoping for.
5k 23:48.45 (3/22); 4M 31:26 (2/22); 5M 38:55 (11/23); 10k 49:24 (10/22); 10M 1:29:33 (2/24); Half 1:48:32 (10/22); Marathon 4:29:58 (11/23)Upcoming races: Running is Back 10k, 5/12; Greta's Run 5k, 5/19
Checking in late once again.
Here's what I had:
M - travel/rest day, flight cancelled, no opportunity for a run.
T - travel day
W - 7 easy miles (10:10)
Th - 11.6 Mt Scott miles (11:36/mile)
F - 9 easy miles (9:36/mile), cool weather = faster run
Sa - 8 humid miles (10:28/mile)
Su - 8 easy miles (10:09/mile)

Hi Tammy, not sure if I will find a replacement. Not doing anything super-long this summer has its advantages, too, I'm not as beat up. 110 degrees sounds scary, we barely touch 90's here and that already feels very challenging for any kind of running. Nice week! That 16 mile long run is excellent!
Hi Fred, nothing in the nearest future. My DW and DD want to continue with local 5k's, so probably I will focus on that for now. Amazing that you are already done with 1/3 of the 18-week plan! Seems like you have just started. Time flies. You are essentially already in the 50 mile domain, just keeping it at this level would be great, I think. Probably thanks to the plan your week is very structured, I see intervals and hills and an MP effort and even a race. Very solid training.
About NYRR: poncho is great, but I very strongly feel that bag check is not really an option. I mean, it might be warm like last year, sure, but often it is not and it might be even raining. Changing into warm and dry clothes as soon as possible after finishing is super-important. I am a bit disappointed NYRR is not sharing that key information with runners. And even worse, they keep making bag check harder and harder every year and in the past they even made attempts to cancel it completely. It is of course much cheaper and easier for them to have no bag check, but that is endangering runners health really.
Very nice week, Paul! I see that you are doing the Mt Scott runs again, impressive!
