For those of you who are new, this is the 40/40 thread, for people who are over 40 years old who run 40 miles/week or more. We give Free Passes to those who come really close or try really hard...

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."
Hi!
I'd like to join this group, if you'll have me. That said, this first week is a taper week for a Half Marathon on Saturday, so I'll probably be under 40 miles this time around -- "free pass" for a first-timer?
Umm, me: a 48-yr-old guy, 2 marathons in the past year (after a 16 year hiatus from running). I have learned a lot from the RA forums over the past 2 years and hope to keep my momentum going. This 40/40 thing sounds like the perfect way to do that!

Welcome SubDood. (One of my favorite Subdudes songs. Are you a fan? Is that where the name's from?)
I'm messing around with the Pfitz plan this week to accommodate this past Sunday's LR and this coming weekend's race.

Thanks! Wow, I hadn't heard of the Subdudes -- but a quick listen makes me think I might be a fan.
I was a submarine officer in the Navy. And I'm pretty even-keeled (i.e., subdued), well, most of the time.

Hey, SubDood! Welcome! I see you're from Plymouth--I'm from Lino Lakes--hopefully, we'll run into each other, sometime. I don't know about that free pass, though...Holly runs a pretty tight ship, here...
Hi Mike E, Thanks! Yes, it would be nice to run into you at a local race. Actually, looking at your Personal Records, it appears we HAVE run into each other before ... well sorta. We both ran Twin Cities Marathon in 1994 and 1996. Those were my only 2 marathons up until about two years ago. My 1996 TCM was the cause of my 16 year break from running -- I over-trained, didn't taper, and got severe leg cramps around mile 24. I know so much more about running now than I did back then (much of it learned from people on the RA forums).

Yeah...I thought you looked familiar...
Thanks Holly! I'm officially starting my new training plan, this week and, yes...I will need a pass...

Despite this good start, I may not make it to 40. I'm at a conference in Chicago, then there's a travel day at the end of the week. I had a great run Tuesday, running from downtown to the north end of the Lakeshore Trail. A strong north wind created whitecaps and geysers as the waves slammed into the seawall. Fun.
