running under the BigSky

Long for some of us with Monday's MLK's day.

Made it to Casey Peak yesterday, but it was a bear!  The trip was going fine until I hit the last mile or so up to the peak- it's steep and a north face so it hold a lot of snow.  I knew this, but what I didn't expect was completely rotten snow.  In places it was wind swept enough that the snow would support my weight, but there were more places where it wouldn't.  Even with snowshoes I was sinking up to my knees and sometimes my waist.  Basically white quicksand.  But eventually I made it.  13 miles, 3500' of gain.

Will get a little recovery hike in sometime today.

qotwe:  we're having pizza tonight, what's on your pizza?  I like my pizza loaded up- pepperoni, italian sausage, mushrooms, onions, peppers and lots of cheese!

Just a 3 mile jaunt this morning. I saw a nice, rack buck cross in front of me this morning at 7:12. I just saw his rack above the broom sage. He didn't know I was there for about 5 seconds or so. He picked his head up, looked at me for a couple of seconds and took off into the woods. I was happy to see him.

QOTD: I like the same on my pizza; load it up.

I took SRDs the last two days.  Actually I had a work-from-home injury.  I had two days of meetings where I was sitting on my ass for hours at a time (yeah I do get up and walk around, but I guess not enough).  Anyway one of those days when I finished I went for a quick run since I only had a little time available.  I didn't stretch and just hit the greenbelt as quickly as possible and then pushed the pace a bit. . .  well I guess I'm too old for that and my hip was toast after a while.     So. . .  two days off for me.

I did an easy 5 mi this morning and it felt fine. Today we're ripping up the deck so I also needed to do a short run today.

mt: great photos, once again.  Nice job on the 13 and 3,500 !!!

qotd: mostly just cheese since I'm a NYC pizza snob.  But I do like sausage and/or peperoni for a change too.

        tbd.

Ended up with another short run-- just over 3-- yesterday. Legs felt sluggish and tired, but then got home and looked at my pace and it was a bit quicker than recently.  I haven't figured out today's plans. Will report back later.

And yesterday I was trying a shortcut to post C's pic. Oh well. Here it is. One of his favorite toys.

qotd: Pineapple and bacon is really good. Pepperoni-- yum. Or basil and sun dried tomatoes. Who am I kidding? it's all good.

10 miles today on the coastal bike path, tried to go at fast-ish pace, sort of succeeded. Lots of people out. Dungeness crab season opened on Monday so the harbor is crazy today. Lots of people buying crab from the boats at the docks. Glad we got some a couple days ago. Steamed it and made crab cakes. Yum.

QOTD: I’ll have what Warden and LB are having.

Skied this morning...friends are trying to get me to join them on a Montana ski trip...thinking about it.

qotd: pepperoni and green olives.  Or pineapple and jelopeno ...or any hot pizza though not a game is sausage on pizza.  Hmmm I want pizza.

yeah that's a good ski area; that's where they do the Rut Run every September; really tough 50k- you have to bag Lone Peak and then descend (as well as numerous other steep climbs/descents)

also a very pretty area, if you go you won't be disappointed

from one of them I did, maybe 2013?

Oh, my favorite.  Do it-- I don't think you'll regret it.  In other news, I''ll get in a quick jog and the boys and I will go for a hike today. We're absorbing the news of my oldest brother's passing. No one could reach him (not completely unusual) but my other brother went and got the police to do a wellness check. He was only 55 (but had type I diabetes and smoked a lot). Ugh, 2021 is not off to a good start.

                        Big Sky...

Runtrail, oh no, I’m sorry for your loss.

6 easy miles. Crazy busy today on the coast. Besides crab, the surf is up at Mavericks and temps are in the 70s.  I'm sitting outside and it’s too hot. Will be doing some yard work, laundry, and other chores today in between football games on the tube.

Gatsby- yup- some very similar experiences Smile, I'd rank the Rut Run a little harder than the Beaverhead though- more gain (and the summit of Lone Peak is brutal!)
