running under the BigSky

    also my Friday

still no trails for me, went to the gym again yesterday and lifted weights

foot is better today, going to play it by ear after work; possibly a short hike with Tiny E, would like to get back on the trails if possible

qotd: your current running shoe of choice?  I’ve switched from Pear Izumi N3’s (now discontinued) to La Sportiva Akasha’s- wide toe box (especially for LS), wonderful outsoles and decently padded- a little on the heavier side, but that seems to work better in the mountains than a really light shoe

Taking off this afternoon. Might squeeze in a run, plus a round of golf. Sunny and warm here today.

Trail maintenance work last night. The park service is fixing up part of the six penny trail. Glad I was working on that section, as it's one of the regular trails I run at French Creek Park. We had a big crew and were tasked mostly with moving big logs (some were old telephone poles) to various points along the trail where they will be installing water breaks. That and moving wet dirt several hundred yards down trail to patch a section of trail where erosion has occurred due to a spring fed creek gushing across the trail. They had diverted the creek a few weeks back. Only a few hours of work, hard and sweaty, but we could have done more had they let us bring our own equipment.

QOTD: Altra Lone Peaks and Timp for the trail, Altra Provision for the occasional road run.

Warden - How is the foot when you wake up in the morning? That seemed to be a particularly painful moment when I had PF, and I think that is common since the tendon is collapsed not stretched while you sleep.

In dog beers, I've only had one.

      Refurbished Hip

I rode my bike to work today for the first time in 3 weeks or so.  Hip did okay-ish.

        QOTD:

        Lies!!

La Sportiva Akasha’s- wide toe box

I am currently in shoe limbo regarding trail shoes.  I miss the old Montrail Mountain Masochists so, so much.  I'm currently rotating between a couple of shoes - Nike Zoom Wildhorse (really want to like these, but I'm afraid they caused my heel to blow up, so I've been shying away from them), Altra Timps (too sloppy for scrambly stuff, but good on easy trails), Topo Terradventure (these are okay-ish and did fairly well for me in AZ, but they're the old version and now discontinued and I haven't tried on the new version yet), and Topo Ultraventure (fit is absolutely amazing, but they're like walking on marshmallows and I hate that.)

        Running is dumb.

        Tim

Taking a SRD today.  Meeting an old family friend for lunch as he's in town visiting.  I feel somewhat human today, so hopefully ABX are working their little magic.

Might go see "Wizard of Oz" on the big screen tonight.  Might be fun to see it in large format with an audience.

QOTD:  Altra Lone Peak's and Inov8 Trail Roc's are in rotation.  Need a new pair of road shoes since I wore out my Hoka Clifton 4's.

          “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

          running under the BigSky

XT- it definitely is a little dicey in the morning getting up; today is the best it’s felt since Saturday’ run- if it’s still feeling half way decent, might chance a short hike after work

            Faster Than Your Couch!

Trying to squeeze in a run between getting the car serviced and new tires on, taxiing kids, and straightening up the house. The mountains are calling my name, nice, hot and sunny, so I guess the house can wait, and kids can bike... trails win

QOTD: still the good old Brooks Pure Grit first generation. They are just broken in now, after about 700 miles on them sand feel really good. For long runs on the rugged trails I switch to my old Cascadia 7’s, still good after maybe 1500 or more miles.

Seems I can’t pull the trigger on new shoes - I might have to triple my anti-anxiety medication to get that done

              Run for fun.

Hi all. A little MIA lately, sorry!  Had a fun run at Mt Shasta last weekend.  Race route had to be rejiggered and didn’t go up quite as high as planned bc there’s still too much snow.  But hit 6500’ and got some hot temps, so still good training for TRT 50 which was the goal. Gearing up for my Western States A/S this weekend. A lot of people, stuff, and processes to manage.  Lots of interesting story lines this year (will Walmsley and Dauwalter repeat?  Dave Mackey returns. Kyle Robideaux running visually impaired. Scott Mills going for no. 20!).  Plus coolish temps. Should make for an interesting race.

Sandy, I saw you mentioned that your DD is doing the TRT 50 now. Tell her not to be weirded out if a random person (me) starts talking to her at the race.

Queen, belated congrats on selling the house. Enjoy MI and the nomadic life that awaits when you return to CA.

Warden, sorry to see you’re dealing with PF. No advice but hopefully others’ recommendations help.

AT, sorry the Lyme is back again. Hope you can get some relief. Are you seeing a specialist?

Mandy, those pics from your bike ride/hike at the lake looked wonderful.

Ok that’s all I can remember.

QOTD: I’m giving Books Cascadias, another try. They used to be my go to, but then Brooks redesigned them in a bad way.  Version 13 seems to be working out. Felt good last weekend for 50k.

Just finished 4 with my friend in the 90 degree heat. But in the shade so it wasn't as bad as this morning would have been with 70 degrees and high humidity.  Managed 4.5 speedy miles with the young kids at the brewery last night.

qotd: cascadias for the trails (There were those couple of bad years, but they seem on track now) and Brooks Launch for the pavement.

Gatsby - I've been reading all of the pre-race reports and predictions. Looks like a fun one to follow. Have fun and get some rest.

DC - what brewery did you run to / from?  DW and I need to check out some of the DC beer scene sometime. My SIL still lives in Kensington and she's a craft beer fan so we should grab her and visit some. .

Did 5 mi up the little hill this morning.  Rain, humidity and a bit warm... just like home.
