Stepping out the door for the first run in awhile. We'll see how the hiking helped or hurt my running. I don't feel like it hurt anything.

QOTD: Name 3 things that you have found positive from the current "lockdown" situation:

    1. Family time is wonderful.

    2. I have been able to spent an enormous amount of time outdoors.

    3. I can get quite a bit done from home.

Morning trailers. I got in a short walk with Chowder, and then a short run yesterday. I'm up to 18.5 miles on GVRAT. Yes, I am the turtle in this race, slow and steady. My goal is to not have to put on my own personal ultra on Aug 31st .

qotd: Yeah, family time and outdoors time. A lot less running around, too. But what I did not expect, was how much I'm getting to connect with my neighbors, and have gotten to know new neighbors. We really have a great community and this has only made it shine more. On any dog walk, I see people I know and usually stop to catch up. Yes, I know this makes me sound like am extrovert (which I'm not), but It's nice having these interactions.  I think if I lived alone or in a rural location, I would be having a harder time.

Happy Star Wars Day. I'm ready to watch the last Star Wars movie tonight. It comes out on Disney+.  Saw it in the theater with DS and it was a pretty good conclusion to the whole story.

I was diligently entering my exact mileage for GVRAT and looks like the rounded up.  I'm at 27.9 after 3 days and they have me at 28

Plan on keeping the streak alive and doing a few today and then big run tomorrow. Trails were too wet up here over the weekend, so hopefully they'll dry out some.

QOTD:  Honestly, not a lot. Can't see my Mom and 2 of the 3 kids. Laid off most of my staff and working a reduced schedule for much less pay. Missed 2 vacations and DD#2 was supposed to graduate on Thursday with her BS RN. Now to top it off DD#1 is pretty sure she's postponing her wedding in September because it's too uncertain right now.  I get outside the same as before, but have to find out of the way trails to stay away from people venturing outside (which I'm glad they are getting outside). So not to be "Debby Downer", but this shit can end.  But to pick 1 thing, looks like global greenhouse emission will be at lowest level in decades due to people not driving and factories not at 100%.

        “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

If my pay was impacted, I would  have been a basket case. I hope it ends soon.

Hate sounding like a downer, but we just had a Zoom conversation with DD#1 and her fiance last night, so DW and I are pretty upset about wedding moving to 2021.

Glad it's not only me...I miss my granddaughter something fierce and she misses me.  Talking on the phone doesn't make up for it as she's only 3.  Now DD is talking about moving out of state so I may miss her even more.

Since we live in the middle of nowhere I'm even more isolated than before no one to visit with even on my introverted terms.  Haven't been anywhere in weeks.  Only good thing is right now both of us have not had our pay impacted but I'm worried about mine as the Casino's operation pays my salary and it's been closed since mid March and no idea when opening and at what capacity.  I keep my CC paid off and I have savings but still I have work to do that keeps me sane.  Without that I'd be very very unhappy.

Got in 10 this morning...perfect weather.  55 degrees and a brilliant sun rising.  Birds chirping, slight breeze.  Through four days, I am over 50 miles for GVRAT.  Most of it is running but some walking miles too.  Tomorrow either needs to be a rest day or a cut back day.

Sorry AT on the wedding postponement.  That sucks.  I know anyone that has their wedding scheduled in April/May have been rocked by this.

QOTD: 1.) Family time has been good but also driving us crazy too.  Our kids are 15, 13, and 10 so it shouldn't be hard to imagine why.  But over the weekend our venture out to ride bikes was just what we needed.  Yesterday myself and two of the three kids went to play mini golf.  I was surprised to see it open but since they opened up golf courses in PA, I guess mini golf counts.  Never had so much fun paying mini golf. 2.) More weekend time to run.  3.) saving $ on gas I guess.  But out electric and water bills are up so it balances out I guess.

                Have a great day!

My favorite day of the week is RUNday

Went out early yesterday to Blue Mounds and did 10 on the bike trails. Went out fairly early and only saw 3 other peeps on those trails but when I was finishing up the place was getting pretty busy but for the most part those people just walk the wider ski type trails so it all worked out well. But like AT said it is a challenge right now to get out on the trails and get away from all the additional people.

Today will be a rest day from running but there will be a rowing session. Then more projects as we continue working on getting the house ready to sell. Sign went up in the yard but it won't go active for a few weeks yet but already tons of interest. Pandemic has yet to have much effect on our local housing market.

QOTD--I'm with AT. Can't name one thing positive as it affects me. DW and I are retired thankfully so no issues financially and have no more free time than before. Have had 3 outdoor adventure type travels cancelled so far. People are behaving weirdly. Have noticed how some peoples true colors have really shown--both good and a lot of bad. I guess the anxiety about the future might be the worst right now, how long this last, a second wave, will life ever be "normal" again. Probably speaking for all but this just sucks.  I guess I am happy no one I know has contracted this yet....

Nice weather this morning for the 2 mile dog wog. Sunny today, mild, but winds are supposed to kick up this afternoon. I will squeeze in some mile at some point. Maybe just the road or local trail.

Had a really fun sort of surreal run yesterday up at the Birdsboro Watershed. Decided to hit some remote trails on the western side of the open space to avoid the quarantiners. So instead of starting the run heading down to the reservoir I headed up the big hill, topped out, then looked for the trails that wandered the western side of the slope. It had been a few years since I ran these trails and back then they were "new" and barely cut in. The mountain bikers have since worn them in nicely and they were easy to follow but it all looked so different. It was a wonderful spring green in the surrounding forest with many patches of mountain laurel. I had wandered about 30 minutes and felt like I had no idea where I was, since I was expecting to cross the trail I had started off on by this time. So I just kept following the path as it wandered down the slope, sort of mesmerized, thinking I had found a new trail system in the park, and I spied a small lake down to left of me and thought, oh, a place I have never seen before out here. So after letting Baker stop at a creek to get a drink, we jogged toward the reservoir and all of a sudden I recognized the place and knew exactly where I was at.. it's the normal lake we get to after less than a mile, but it took us 40 minutes on this route and for a time being I felt like I had no idea where I was at but it was the route I had planned. Strange. We did a few more miles after that and had major success avoiding the quarantiners.

Played some golf on Saturday. Walked and carried my clubs instead of riding. Holes had a pvc tube the circumference of the cup so the balls would not drop in the hole (haha). That was strange at first, but you could pretty much tell if you holed a putt with the added bonus of calling any shot that hit the pvc tube holed. Actually with the tube in the cup, I found myself more aggressive putting and chipping and had many up/downs.

QOTD: Being a work at home person since forever life is much the same for me, other than restrictions to travel, dine/out, weirdness of grocery/food shopping, etc. So I can't think of anything new that is super positive.

In dog beers, I've only had one.

a nice 5 mile recovery hike with Tiny Elvis yesterday, there were quite a few mtn bikers out so we made our own loop off trail

probably hit the trails after work today

Today is a SRD, but I may go out for a walk later.  Just to get outside for a while and add a mile or two to my GVRAT.

"May the 4th" is my DD's birthday so we'll call her later.  We dropped off a small cake for her the other day, but she said she ate it already.  (That's my girl.)

                        qotd:

                        1) DW and I are just spending alot of time together (we get along so that's good, although she's calling this a 'trail period' for when I retire).

                        2) My running mileage has gone up but with nothing to train for there no pressure to push the pace each day and my back is liking that.

                        3) Don't have to drive to/from work so I'm saving on gas and tolls.

Not feeling well today at all, so I do t think I will get my 10 in today. My heartrate has been wonky and it makes me feel somewhat short of breath. Probably  because I did way more miles this weekend than usual...but sure felt good while I was doing it! Sucks to get old, damn it.

                          Qotd:

                          1. I get way more work done at work with no one to socialize with throughout the day.

                          2. I spend way more time outside.

                          3. I bought a kayak!

                          4. I think I. Make ann effort to be exceptionally kind to people I meet either on the phone through work or the cashiers at the store. Not that I was not nice before..it just makes me feel like we are all in it to win it together.

I know RW is frowned upon...but I thought you a ll might  enjoy this article. It is about a runner who was also a hero astronaut.
