Rest day today but like Gatsby I start my taper for Hallucination 100. My last week of training was a long of 27 on Friday, 20 on Sat., and 15 on Sunday. Weekly total was 92. Physically I feel in better shape, and healthier, than I ever have for a race but mentally i don’t quite feel ready for the pounding of the miles to come. Still working on that
QOtD: how does the current you stack up against the 18 year old you?
18 year old me would kick the crap out of the 53 year old me at a 5k but I’m sure I could give myself a run for the money on a 10k. Past a 10k I would whip his butt. 18 year old me just didn't have the heart for anything past 3 miles
Trails
Rest day cause I have to drive to KC to do a surprise cash count tomorrow at the Casino...Don't want to, don't want to be up. I'm not sore from the weekend miles but I am tired. Taking care of the horse in this heat and humidity is tiring also. It's one thing the Graves tends to aggravate is being tired.
qotd: 18 year old me was partying and didn't care anything about fitness.
I think I will take the day off from running today and just do gym stuff. If it stays dry this afternoon, I will try to finish up staining/sealing the posts on the deck. I need to wrap that off, but LOL golf and running took precedence this weekend, plus there was periods of rain both days.
I managed to pull off a ~17 mile long run out of my ass yesterday out at French Creek. I did 3 loops, 2 identical loops on my easiest route out there of 6+ miles and a short 4+ mile loop down and around Hopewell lake. That last short loop was a jog/shuffle but it was midday and sort of balmy. The first 2 loops were pretty decent despite a shuffling start. I even split the laps, maybe just slightly under on the second lap. Saw a few Amish folk out for a hike around the lake on my last lap. Dressed in their normal attire even in the heat. Running around shirtless I must have looked like a heathen, but I waved hello to them anyway and saw them later and the man asked me how long it took me to go around the lake. "Too long today", I said. Pretty sure I am going to do the Labor Pains 12 hour in 2 weeks. Main goal is 50k (or 26.2) to add another year to my marathon or beyond streak (16 years now).
QOTD: Like DHuffman, fitness was not a concern of mine at 18 so I could kick his ass in any race distance.
Gator - Good work on the training. I remember when I could wrack up those miles. Happy tapering.
In dog beers, I've only had one.
Tim
SRD today.
Gator - nice wee! Hope taper goes well for Hallucination.
dhuff - are they really surprised when you show up? Every find them short of cash?
XT - We were thinking about Labor Pains, but trip to see aging in-kaws won out. I've always just done 50k there. Then we stop and drink Spaten and hang out. Always a fun race.
QOTD: 18 yo me was a lean mean fighting machine. I was just coming off swimming career ending shoulder surgery and took up bike racing. I loved that and raced for a few years before shoulder got well enough to do tri's. So think 18 yo would win on speed and probably endurance.
“Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!
AT yes they are surprised and not too happy ever to see us as we disrupt their day. No, so far not short of cash but it's a PITA counting it all.
Quicky this morning. This week will be a struggle.
QOTD: I would beat his ass and make him like it.
LB2
running under the BigSky
4 miles with Tiny E this morning; the mornings are incredible- low 50's, hard to believe that in not too many hours it will be near 90
getting packed up for a 3 day stay at Georgetown Lake with the kiddos and wee kiddos; should be fun
qotd: at 18 I was lifting six times a week, but did little or nothing aerobically- so in regards to running (at least w/ some distance added in) I think I'd make a fool of my 18 year old self; at the gym throwing around steel- that's a different matter
2023 goal 2023 miles √
2022 goal- 2022 miles √
2021 goal- 2021 miles √
LB- I always thought those tall leather boots you talk about were for snake protection, now not I'm not so sure
Hahaha. They serve multiple purposes. I was thinking about you yesterday evening when I was watching Randy Newberg on an elk hunt in the Wind River Wilderness Area. Even though that is Wyoming, it still made me think of you. They were packing in with llamas.
I like Randy Newburg's stuff- solid guy; somebody you wouldn't have any qualms hunting with
When I was sneeking around Wardens back yard last month I meet a guy in refrigerator pass leading 5 or 6 llama’s up the trail. He said he was training them to pack supplies up to hunters. Pretty cool.
Wish I could of had time to meet up with Warden but my DD had me on a strick schedule. Although I did make it to the top of Mt Helena a couple of times. I was taking the northwest trail to the road to Mars but got diverted by a chevy. Oh and no worries Warden I ran as quite as I could so I didn’t wake the sleeping giant. Although I did make it to Elkhorn to visit a few ghost.
LB2 lol I think I would kick my 18 year old ass too just to try and stop me from a few stupid mistakes
should have gotten ahold of me while you were here; sounds like you did find quite a few good places though
Faster Than Your Couch!
Work kept me captured for 2 extra hours, which is good for the money but bad for my self. Just a walk with DD today, maybe a late evening run, but not very likely.
QOTD: My 18-year old self would have left me in the dust at biking, circuit training/interval workouts and maybe at distances up to 5-8 miles. Anything longer and less cardio, I’ll beat nowadays.
Run for fun.
Hi all. Back from a quick trip to NH, where it was 'hot' at 80 degrees. Some good thunderstorms in, though, to keep up the humidity. Only ran on Sunday, 7 miles around my sister's mountain, 999 ft elevation change for my run, which is a lot for me. I had to stay on the roads, but most of that was a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. Did some hiking picked 40 lbs of blueberries (but no wild ones), smoked some meat in her smoker. Drank a few gin and tonics.
qotd: Swimmer 18 yo me would have kicked the 51 year old. The runner old lady, however, would crush the 18 yo. I was a recreational runner who thought 3 miles was the limit, occasionally dabbling in 10ks in college, but with little regular training. Oh, youth.
Le professeur de trail
Got out for a really nice 14+ yesterday on the AT. I was first out as evidenced by being covered in webs! I need to get out tonight for a short run.
XT: When we were in Chincoteague, VA a couple weeks ago, there were a lot of Amish. They didn't seem to care about all the people on the beach nearly naked.
Gator - nice back to back (to back). Is anyone ever mentally ready for a 100? BTW - is this your first hundred? I cannot remember.
QOTD: 18? How about 21 instead. I was in the best shape of my life then, playing college basketball. But my current self would out endure him. But I wish I had that athleticism and my current endurance.
Have a great night!
My favorite day of the week is RUNday
