Fun in Oregon - Trail Porn (Read 248 times)

AT-runner

Just getting settled back home after our trip to the Pacific NW.  Had a great time in Oregon for the holidays getting the whole family together.  Oldest DD hates her job, and we told her she can always move back home, but that's not likely since she loves Portland and the surrounding area too much.

Ran in Forest Park.  Parked at Pittock Mansion and ran north along Wildwood Trail.  Very hilly run on well groomed trail.

Nice waterfall along the way (small by Oregon standards).

Next run was along the Columbia River between some of the (big) water falls.  Don't know name of trail, but we started at Bridal Veil Falls and made our way east for an out and back.

    Bridal Veil Falls

Onto Wahkeena Falls - Trail crosses bridge 1/2 way up in photo.

Then along trail to Multnomah Falls.

We then ran the 1.5 miles to the top of the falls (620+ feet up) and along the way the rain turned to snow.

    Top of Falls.

    Top of Multnomah Falls

From there it was return to car.

Next run was Old Salmon River Trail where we followed cougar (edit) tracks for a while but never saw the cat.

View of some of Mt. Hood from Old Salmon River Trail.

Our last run was the Barlow trail from the old tollgate to Mirror Lake Trail (Mt. Hood) and back.

    Campground near start.

    Mt. Hood along the way.

    Onto Mirror Lake Trail.

Lastly, our tour of Full Sail Brewery was excellent.

Sorry for some of the quality, but hopefully you'll get the idea of how beautiful this area is.

      Uh oh... now what?

^ +1     Everyone should know that those are totally faked pictures, photoshopped...

there is nothing like that out here.  There is no need to come to the Pacific Northwest

or wherever whoever it was took those pictures.  He was probably in Mississippi or

Vermont or one of those other eastern states.

Beautiful pictures! We used to live in Oregon, but that's when I was fat and lazy, so I never took advantage of the things you had the opportunity to enjoy. Thanks for sharing.

Yea, you got me.  That's really 7-Springs mountain on top of Laurel Highlands Trail.  I had them cut all the trees down so it only looked like it was 11,240 feet tall...

...and here is another fake pic of DD and her boyfriend next to one of those east coast trees that was planted 3 years ago

Why hasn't that tree been made into furniture and put in my house? What a waste of a resource. It's been sitting in that same spot for hundreds of years doing nothing! For God's sakes...cut it down and make me a bistro table!

Wow! I would love to run trails like that. Just awesome.

We have tentative plans to visit the pacific nw in 2014 (visiting the wife's family in Vancouver, BC) and I'm going to look for those moss covered trails.

Aha... we've already got her dressing like a PWNer.  Next time take a day's drive up north to the island.  The Wildwood Trail was our course for the Mudderfell 6-hour four consecutive years.  Nice tree too.

Thanks for sharing...just took a mini run through the forest while sitting on my $$$.  Smile

I need to sign up for a race..

                    under a rock

Thanks for sharing the pics. DH and I love the PNW! We went out there in 2011 and fell in love, especially with the Oregon coast, but we'll take anywhere in the PNW. We are working hard at saving and getting finances under control so we can move out there, putting our house on the market in a few months. I am so thankful that DH has a job that allows him to work from home. We can live anywhere as long as the internet services in the area are up to par.

MTA: I also love Full Sail Sessions Black Lager as well as many other beers from Oregon, and a few from WA. The full sail is one of the few that I like that I can track down in NC without paying an arm and a leg.

Goals: 1)Get my IT Band to cooperate 2) Run lots of trails. 3) Get my back to cooperate.

We can't get Full Sail in PA.  Looks like I can drive to Baltimore and find some.  I tried all 3 sessions beers.  DS had the IPA and LTD 06.

I really really need to travel west.  Really really really.  I wonder if Mandyroo wants to go on a trip with me.  Big grin

I skipped through all of those borring, tree-hugging nature photos and went straight to the brewery.  Nice stash of brew and glad to see they gave out some samples !!!

I've got friends and family in Portland.  I should visit them. Great Pictures.

Believe it or not I've never been on the west of Highway 97 in Oregon!

Shoot it was in Portland in 2011.....two more years until the next one...

Looking for a reason to run...

                              Irish Luck

So jealous! I have a cousin in Portland that I need to plan a visit to.

BT survivor since 2003. Trail runner since 2009.

I think brain surgery stimulated my running nerve and made me into a trail runner. I'm grateful for both.
