Cider IS carb loading
I have emailed the organiser, Jen to state our intention. The guy who won the Downland Ultra, Sean Ketteridge, won last year in a time of 19 hours.......nutter. He also nearly won the north downs way last year and also won the round the island half near my mums last year....in a course record.
Anyway, back down to earth. I think 24 hours is a realistic time, bearing in mind that it is much hillier than the Ridgeway and will be mid-July. So Hot. The checkpoint-age seems to state that there is more of a sparse-ness and a reliance on pubs (!!!????) for some of the checkpoints. Mrs UB has agreed to be chief crew again and there will be the help and support from a number of members of Dulwich Park Runners. This time we will have a few chaps and chapesses to run segments with us. PMA
So what do we say chaps? I am so wanting to be a CENTURION!!!!
Sounds good Rob,

Sounds like a plan. Is on my radar but depends how things pan out with other runs i have my eye on.

I think I am favouring this over the housman 100 but am not sure. I think training starts in earnest in the next week or two. I am doing Founders on sunday next week. Anyone up for it?
Bobban - Dont think i will be up for doing founders next week, have some stuff on. Also not sure the legs will have fully recovered from Greensand to-day, they are a bit trashed, great course but it was bloody hilly. Helen from Ridgeway was 1st Female, good to catch up with her at the start and finish.
Self anointed title
I agree with Tom, George and I were discussing 2011 options yesterday whilst out on the North Downs. We took in to consideration the various runs that are along there of which George has run quite a few and this looks like a BIG call for a sub 24 hour but not impossible.
Anna Finn managed it in 24:24 hours this year and is a good person to gauge against as she did Ridgeway in 18 hours, she is a seasoned ultra runner and running about 10 50+ mile ultras a year.
Sorry if I appear to be putting a downer on it but I just wanted to highlight some caution
Good point Tom, to clarify mine to show how tougher it is to see it as "just" 16-18 miles and it took Bob Treadwell approx. 7 hours to run that extra distance.
Don't get me wrong I certainly would want to aim for 24 hours and everyone running it should aim for that time, I just wanted to highlight that it is a big call to make and would be a brilliant achievement
We were thinking of aiming for 24 hours when we were a couple of weeks from the ridgeway. In completing it in 21, there were many areas that we could have reduced that to 20 easily, 19 at a push, particularly in the overnight sections. Aiming for 24 is a possibility, but I on one hand would have to be fitter than I have ever been and having an 88 under my belt has focused my mind on transitions and not losing time taking photos and wandering around being silly on a run.
Who is at Founders this sunday?
Bobban - But being silly, taking photos and eating 2 x hotdogs at silly o'clock in the moning are part of the fun........
Agree sub 24hrs would be a 9.5+ on a scale of 1 - 10 on difficulty, but we all now have a BIG through the night Ultra under our belts
which we didn't have pre Ridgeway, so, yes it is the next step up but it is a natural progression. I am sure i speak for all of us (feel free to correct me as per usual...) when i say we would certainly train harder than ever before to ensure we gave ourselves the best chance of sucess.
On a seperate note my legs are still very sore from Greensand Mara, got to love those hills.
how did you do? I did not see your name on the 2010 results???
Rob
The results are here.....Mr Immune is on there
You need to look further down the list!!! I was 56th (think i was 79th at turnaround point) in 4:09, approx 2:06 for first half, 2:03 for 2nd half. Very good course and great views from Leith Hill etc, about same amount of climb as Southdowns Mara (circa 5400ft). The winner went past in the opposite direction at a fair old pace, his finishing time was v.v impressive. Defo one for the calendar for next year.
