Hangin' with Hal!
Howdy y'all,
Well, I survived the trip to Memphis! Of course, the drive was, well, interesting...had no problems paying attention to the road when I saw the first deer along I-55 (and several more after that). And, on a positive note, my cousin's team won despite the awful officiating! I think Austin College had 15 or 16 penalties (11 or 12 were questionable, and at least 2 were just flat-out bad calls) compared to Rhodes' 2 (they got away with a lot more, though).
I have some bad news (for me, at least)...looks like I might be sidelined from running for at least the next couple of weeks. Went out on an 8-miler earlier today (planned on 16, but cut it short), and wouldn't you know, my right hip started acting up. It really started Friday, but I just pushed through it, figuring the rest yesterday would help. Felt fine this morning, started acting up around Mile 2, but I kept going...it was just awful at the end of my run. And I've been hobbling around on it pretty much the rest of the day. If it's not any better by Tuesday, I'm gonna go have an X-ray done, I sure hope it's not a stress fracture, and mostly, I hope I can be up and around again before my run in Dallas! I'd like to at least be up and running before the Mobile race in January. So since I won't be running, I'm going to apologize to all in advance if I get a little short...running is an addiction, I guess you could say it's my crack...take it away from me and I start having withdrawals! lol
So, with the low flow so far, shouts should be short...oh, has anyone heard from Snowman since his race this weekend?
Chuck - Great run, man! Hope to hear the 13 works well for ya next week.
Cara - When I was looking at the signature stuff, I noticed the exclusion of the <img> HTML tag. Could be a hindrance to posting the ticker, ugh. So 35 miles running, boot camp AND kayaking? I don't blame ya for being beat...
Teresa - Hope we're not invading too terribly much as of yet! So you're from Austin originally? I'm sorry...lol (sorry, I bleed maroon) At any rate, thanks for the welcome!
Joe - Good call in moving the forum. The "upgrade" killed Active. And I'll remember about the training runs during inclement weather next time we have a hurricane...that'll make for one heck of a hurricane party! lol
Cyndi - That's one heck of a recovery week! So where are the pictures of this tattoo?
Wendy - Great week...so you're doing the full in Feb again this year?
Lorie - Congrats on signing up for your half! I'll try to send some of our heat your way.
Joe - Great 8...so Sugar Land's your next half? Nice area out that way...but then again, so is most of the county.
All right y'all, guess I better go get some ice on my hip. Run well!
- Rob
One day at a time
Morning everyone,
4 miles this morning - my legs felt dead to start with, but after the first mile or so everything was ok and I was trying to keep myself down to around 10:20 pace. I have put together a plan to get me to a 10k end of next month...
I am going for a PB before i'm right back into half and full marathon training.
Bootcamp tonight - will be biking there too so lots of exercise! Tomorrow is 8 miles with 400m intervals!
Joe - thanks for posting my ticker query up! I totally get your frustration with active... my only concern is loosing the great group we have built up, but hopefully we can get them to come across too Great job on the 8 miler!
Chuck - glad to hear the 10 miler went pretty well!
Teresa - I live in the UK (England). I've ran loads of 10k's, several HM's, and last month my first full marathon in Berlin. I'm hooked and am now signed up for another in April (with a couple of HM's inbetween).
Cyndi - so cool that Spicegeek is going to pace you! I am seriously considering getting a KB - do you have a class or something where you can learn the correct movements?
Misswendy - big mileage for week 1 training! What plan are you following this time? I'm thinking Pfitzinger 55 mile one again but would be interested in considering options from the pros
Lorie - Crazy weather! It's great when you think how far you've come over such a short time! What plan did you use for your full? I have a friend doing Brighton with me, and i'm looking for a plan for her which is less intense than Pfitzinger but does the job... I think you only had one 20 miler from memory and lower mileage than mine, but it obviously worked for you so would be great to get some advice to pass on!
Rob - Hope you managed to miss the deer! Bad news on the hip, but good to take it easy now rather than pushing through. Hope it turns out to be nothing! Oh - and you missed the biking (twice) from my last weeks set of workouts
Gonna get some lunch now Happy running, Cara x

Good Morning All!
Cannot believe this but I didn't run this weekend - well I can't say that I just started a bootcamp class and Saturday morning the instructor decided he didn't want to work out in the nice air conditioned building so we did a lot of running, wind-sprints, walking lunges, high knees and all that good stuff outside. Quite a workout for a first timer to the class but I'm happy to say I made it through whoohoo!
Today I will be doing a 4.5 - 5 mile run with the hubby, I'm not fast enough to stay with him yet but my goal is to not lose sight of him while we are out on our route then more bootcamp Tues and Thurs.
Chuck - saw your update on your 10 mile run on facebook congrats! Hope the knee holds up
Joe - thanks for the invite!
Everyone that I don't know yet - happy running and I promise to get better at giving individual shout outs
Hi all, Just glad to have found you all again. Got to get my links here set up either later tonight or tomorrow....anyone heard yet from Snowman? I'm dying to know how his race went and he hasn't updated anywhere yet (even FB). No running for me today and I'm sore from the KB workout. Cara, right now I'm just swinging the thing around trying not to hit myself with it. I figure I'll use the instructions that came with it and do some reading to find some workouts. Definately not an indoor thing so doing to a video is out of the question.Have a great monday all!
Cyndi
Happy Monday morning all. Wow! What a game on Saturday!! Seriously thought I was going to have a coronary before it was over. Got my 6 in on Friday before going out of town then another 45 min this AM. Mediocre time after a rather “fun-filled” week-end. I hope this post make sense as it was compiled mostly from posts on the Active site.
Joe – Thanks for taking the leap. It was getting more than a little frustrating. Thanks to your Cowboys for kicking our butts yesterday. My boy (Ryan) did not have a good day. I didn’t realize you were racing the same week-end as me. Mine is on the 9th of January. OMG! A half filled up in 24 hours?? We have a 10K here in Atlanta on the 4th of July that fills up almost that fast with 50,000 runners.
Chuck – Where you been man? Glad to have you back. How’s your son? Glad to hear the knee is behaving. Great job on your 10.
Rob – Was that the flu that caused that?!? I guess Mount Cody didn’t have it (thank heavens)!Bummer on the hip!! I hate to hear that and hope it is nothing major. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Rick – The UA Coldgear is quite toasty. I haven’t worn mine yet and have wondered if the top will be too warm.
Doc – Zumba sounds like a blast. I aspired to be a dancer but my dad said “No” so I became an accountant/software geek instead….heck of a trade off. How are the new shoes? I understand your frustration with the Eagles and #7. All I can say is “good riddance”.
Mac – How was the Hot chocolate run (and the schnapps)?
TBMcKay – Welcome! I see you’ve gotten some advice already on the cross-training. One other thing, if you are doing most of your running on a treadmill, make sure you are keeping the incline at least at 1%.
Cary – Congrats on the new shoes! Hope your schedule adjusts to the end of day-light saving time. Nothing like running outside!
Kelly – That’s a heck of a workout! I’ll have to give it a try when I add speed work.
Snowman – The veep is checking on the price of the race. I think we will definitely sign up for it too. Race report please!!
Cyndi – Hope you enjoyed the massage. Congrats on signing up for more races! 30 on a recovery week…that sounds like you. Great job!! Congrats on the tattoo! Sounds cool.
Newjogger – I think taking an entire day off is a good idea. I think going to 11 then 12 sounds like a good idea (or it would be for me at least). Running is so mental that knowing you can “go the distance” seems that is would be helpful. I am shooting for under 2:30 for my half. I am training on a lot of hills and my half will be almost entirely flat so I think it’s attainable. We’ll see….
Melody – Take it easy and let your body rest. That race you did was something else!
Jeff – Great job on your (only) 10K!!
Spice – I long for the day that I have to fight to keep my pace down. Great job on the last long run. Less than a week now!!! Why am I not surprised that your after picture has you holding a kettle-bell?
Jay – Great job on the 10.25! Way to scare off the wildlife.
Juli – Pain just above the heal sounds like it could be your Achilles tendon. RICE is a good plan. Keep an eye on it.
AnTrelle – Welcome!
Cara – All that biking and boot camping and running…..I would be done in too. Hope we can figure out how to make the tickers work here. I too will miss the “visual”.
That’s it for now. Everybody have a good week.
