I'm just a fraction away from being Regional Class in the 5k; Local Class in the 10k; and a bit below Local for the marathon.

A 1.25-mile race?? Now that would be short and sweet. Are you going?

I would go if this were a 5K rather than a 2K, or maybe if a decent portion of the cast would be going. I think they may have dropped the ball in not making this a 5K… they could have had a stripper come out dressed as a nurse, and then given a novelty-sized check made out to “Science.”

And don't forget firing a real gun within city limits to start the race. I thought it was funny how in the episode they really made it seem like a 5k is about 10 miles long. Jim and Pam seemed to spend all afternoon walking the course, and Toby remarked that he usually has to stop and go to the bathroom during these things.

I'm in the process of hawking a bunch of stuff on eBay. I'm including several auctions of running gear/accessories that I no longer use. Probably not a lot of great interest right now... however, I'll have a few more auctions going up in the coming days. Gotta sock some money away to buy some furniture in the coming year. DR - You might be interested in an auction I'll be putting up in the next few days. It will be a lot, which will include two pairs of medium New Balance running shorts (blue and red, respectively), and a grey New Balance running shirt. I bought all three items at a end of season clearance sale, so wasn't able to return them. I later found out that I wear large shorts, and NB shirts apparently fit a bit small. I think the medium shirt will fit you better, and the shorts would definitely be more comfortable in the warmer months than traditional shorts. http://myworld.ebay.com/rickskins83 Additionally, please let me know if you know of anyone who wears size 10E running shoes. I got hosed by a seller on eBay who sold me a pair of size 10 shoes, but neglected to mention they were wide. Now, I could send the shoes back, but I'll have to pay shipping again and won't be refunded shipping I originally paid. I'd much rather just give the shoes to a runner so I know they will be put to good use. I'll also be selling an Amphipod 20-20 Full Tilt hydration belt. I bought this before I learned that there are water pumps on the NCR Trail. Now, a simple hand-strapped 20 oz. bottle is sufficient. I'll probably put this on the selling block sometime over the weekend, as well.

Are you sure it's a good idea to sell that hydration belt? Not every trail or route your run will have water pumps ...

Here's something interesting concerning Tyson Gay: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/sleuth/2008/07/christian_sites_ban_on_g_word.html?hpid=news-col-blog By interesting, I mean "pretty funny."

Say, if someone were to have chafing so severe that it made walking painful, what sort of topical ointment would be best recommended? Preparation H?

I wound think something simple like Neosporin, but I guess that depends on the size of the area. If it's serious enough that it hurts to walk, that sounds like something you would want to irritate as little as possible until it has time to heal properly (i.e., take a couple of days off?).

Yes, someone in this situation should certainly take a couple days off, as running more exacerbates the problem immeasurably.

Intriguing. Has anyone read either “Daniels Running Formula” (Jack Daniels) or “Road Racing for Serious Runners” (Pete Pfitzinger)? If so, any thoughts on whether their methods could be applicable to someone who could be considered an average road racer?

I would advise against drinking Jack Daniels before a race.
