Editorial comment:  This is one of the stupidest moves of an already ineffective organization.  The 6-Day race has been removed from the world record list despite it being rooted in ultra history back to the 19th century.  The 50 mile is being added even though it is run almost exclusively in the US and UK with very few races outside those countries.  It seems to be an attempt for World Athletics to grab control, and also try to treat ultra races the same way track and road races are, including mandatory drug testing for record applications.  How many ultras are prepared to do drug testing and what additional expenses would that create for races.
