Notes
This run was a little strange. I started out with the mentality that I was going to focus on being extremely cautious about what kind of pace I was working on since the weather was a little bit warmer than it has been of late. Early on, I felt great! The miles were clicking off with minimal effort, my stride felt very efficient, and my breathing was very relaxed. It was right around 13 miles when I started to notice that things were going a little south on me. The 16th mile was when I decided that I was cutting this run at 18 once I got back to the starting point instead of adding on to get 22 like I had planned.
I rallied a little bit in the last couple of miles (which were downhill) to salvage at least a fairly respectable long run on a warm day. It was nice to be off the roads today. I was just a little bit rattled that I fell apart so quickly. I am positive that it is due almost entirely to not being acclimated to the heat. Plus, miraculously, I felt like I was fighting the wind both on the way out and on the way back...it never seemed like it was helping me. That happens a lot at the Bug...not sure why.
I definitely got humbled today. I did not think 22 was going to be too much of an issue, but it was not happening today. Perhaps that was a lesson of respect for the longer distances.
