Notes

Centennial 10k. Damn. This was a complete shit show across the board. 7 guys at 31:0x or faster coming in, along with some low 15 minute 5k guys, so a much deeper field than last year, with most everyone struggling to run sub 80 second laps late into the race. Going into the race, Bobby told us to be extremely conservative in the first half of the race and warned us no one was going to run fast. Sure enough he was right, as I came through 2 miles right at the back of the lead pack and wasn't feeling terrible. The next mile is when things started to get dicey, as I got dropped from the pack and decided to try and eat people up the rest of the way. What actually ended up happening was me running the same pace as the rest of the field and then passing two guys in the last 800, but really no other movement. 12th in the 10k is definitely not how I'd like to go out, but I certainly ran my hardest, and the competition was very worthy. Louis had one of the best races of his life to snag third, but other than that our team really got worked. It's frustrating that my entire time at Hopkins we've struggled to match Haverford in almost every distance race, but hats off to them and it was great having them push us to our limits every conference race. While there are always going to be "what if's" in every runner's career, I don't have regrets about my time running at Hopkins. It's been awesome training and competing with some great people and achieving some solid times as well. I'm not planning on giving up on the sport just yet, and who knows what's in store next? It'll be hard to leave the team behind, but I'm also ready for the next phase of life and don't see myself as one of those guys who tries to live in the "glory days", so onto the 5k and then running for the hell of it!
