Notes

Conferences 10k, 6th place. Time is obviously not super impressive but this was a really good race considering the comp and weather. The winds were about 14mph, so not awful but it adds up over 25 laps. Really had no idea how this race was going to play out, so I just planned to keep scoring spots within sight and see how I felt. The race wasn't fast, and the lead pack was huge for the first two miles, so I just tried to stay as relaxed as possible. This was quite hard though, since no one wanted to break the wind and there was lots of jockeying and small surges that drained the field without them really noticing. We passed the first mile in 5:09 and 2mi in 10:20, which was fine. Between two miles and 5k, we dropped Geoffrey and Jeff and a Dickinson guy, so the lead group was just me, 5 haverford Bros, and Ollie. Our 5k split was 16:07. That felt pretty smooth but I honestly didn't know what I should be feeling at that point. Until 10 laps to go I held tight, but Ollie made a big move there to break up the pack. Him and three Haverford guys pulled away, so it was just me and a fourth Haverford guy. They didn't get much distance on us but at that point the race was decided as Ollie got dropped and then no one passed each other. The last mile I was hurting like hell and just wanted to stop, I was desperately trying to close the gap on the guy in front of me but it was no use. Crossed the line and was totally spent, but also very happy I had scored. Good motivation going forward knowing that Haverford is right there, but still stronger than us right now.

Good first 10k experience. Slow race though, so curious to know what I could do in a paced race with a lot of people. Time to rest up for the 5k
