Notes
Mile race at the Alumni meet. I debated what I wanted to do at the start of this race a few times, and decided I should just get after it since everyone already knew I had run fast and would just wait to see what I do anyway. No point wasting the race with a few slow laps to start. Also, is strange that I feel more nervous at some of these alumni races than I did in college?
Right away I got out fast and tried to just scare people away from coming with me. I went through 209 in a low 33 so it might have been a little quicker than I had really meant to go out. I tried to settle in and keep a pace for 4:20, but in the middle my stride was choppy and I really wasn't enjoying sitting out front waiting to get hunted down by everyone. I composed myself during a few of those slower laps though and was able to finish with a pretty fast last 400 to run a good time. Not the sub-4:20 I was hoping for but still a really good effort leading from start to finish. Probably a better effort than the 4:18 was to be honest. I got done and saw a bunch of guys finished with good races, and was glad to see the honest pace made for a good race for everyone. I'm not sure if I could have started to pick it up more from 800-600 but I really need to start going after that part of the race if I want to run a faster mile.
