Wilton Eager Beaver 5k. I felt like Nutmeg and Rick Pahl got out faster than I was planning on. I don't think it was too fast but I could tell my legs hadn't been racing or even running much lately. A little before the mile mark I started to get my legs under me and moved beside Rick and Nutmeg instead of drafting. Around a mile and half I decided to throw in a surge since that is the time of the race that I usually make a move. Rick jumped on the move right away and I settled the pace back a little thinking I could be in for a long race. For some reason I felt like I needed to try to make another move so after about 15-20 seconds I went again and this time I got some space. But only for a few steps because Nutmeg knew he needed to jump on it. The move ended up being quite a bit harder than I had planned and by the 2 mile mark I was feeling pretty rough. I just kept rolling along though because Nutmeg was right next to me and I felt like I needed to hang on as long as possible. He got a half step on me for most of this mile and I think if he would have thrown in any kind of small surge it would have dropped me. But he let me hang in the race until the end and I made a big move with ~400m to go. It felt like it might have been too big too soon again because I was struggling the last 100m. And after the race I was exhausted. Nutmeg let me go on the move but still finished 4 seconds behind me.

A lot happened in that 5k! It's fun reading Nutmeg's entry and yours back-to-back. See you at All-American?

Yep, I will be there. Not really sure of my fitness but hopefully it goes alright.
