Boomer Route

Notes

Was dreading this workout. Was at the doctor for like two hours, drove home in traffic, scarfed down dinner and had to head out the door.

Plan was 10 miles of 3:00 hard (around or just faster than HM effort) and 3:00 mediumish (5:30ish or so). I didn't check my pace at all during the workout, just looked at how much time I had left on each interval. Started this at the base of Jenkins, ran five miles of the Boomer route and turned around, which meant I was running a ton of hills, with the way down being easier than the way back.

Eased into the workout and was feeling pretty good a few reps in. I really struggled running up the hills on the 6th fast portion and even on the recovery jog, it felt like my quads were going to explode. I was hurting big time and was expecting to fall apart, but was able to finish up, even though the hills were really tough. Had to stop for about 10 seconds after the eighth fast portion because I thought I was going to puke.

Pretty pleased with this workout. I ran this about 8s a mile faster than the last time I ran this workout on this course (Nov. 2011,) even though the winds were stronger that day. I was much more racing fit then as well.

Besides struggling on the hills, I felt really good on the flats. I could tell I was slowing down on my recovery jogs, which shows I'm not very sharp right now. I could also feel my right arch collapsing inward, thanks to my weak right glute. I need to quit being lazy on that because I'm getting a little plantar fascia pain and that can turn into something else.
