Notes
Weather was pretty decent...mid 50s, overcast, with a 8-10mph wind. I could tell the race was stacked and when the gun went off, I hung behind a pack of 10 or so guys. First mile was right at 5:00 and then in the second mile, the leaders picked it up for a bit, gapping me in the process and then I caught back up. This would turn into a habit for the first 5-6 miles. Shortly before the sixth mile, they took off and left me by myself. I caught up to a guy around eight miles, passed another and then caught up to Joseph Maina when we were running around the race track. Joseph and I ran together for a bit and I left him around 9-10 miles. I could see Daniel Kirwa about a minute or so ahead, so I tried to focus on him, When I hit 10 miles, I figured I had a shot at sub 65, so I tried to press on the gas. I was slowly running Daniel down and in the last mile, tried to press hard because I had a strong headwind and didn't want to run 65:01. I caught up a good bit but it wasn't enough to catch Daniel, who beat me by 17s. After the race, I felt really good and it felt like I may have had too much left in the tank. Pretty crappy write-up but I'll work on a better one for the blog.
