Changed it up and ran down Fern Valley instead of heading straight down to Shun Pike. First mile was pretty windy and after getting chased by one fat dog and a couple minutes later, a short fat mutt and his angry army of chihuahua mixes on Fern Valley, I decided I won't venture out there again. Once I got back onto Shun Pike, I realized I was running 5:40ish very easily, so I knew that probably meant a headwind on the way back. As soon as I turned around, it felt like the Waterboy was trying to tackle me and it stayed like that for a few miles. It was easily the strongest wind I've run against here and my quads were hurting and it felt like I was running close to 5:40 pace instead of 6:15s. I ran the average pace I wanted to, but the wind definitely slowed down my average. A couple of times, I debated bagging it in because I was running so hard but that would have made me late for my class.

I'm not sure if it made any sense, but since I can run early on Fridays, I skipped breakfast to try and do this run in a lower carb state because the medium pace is where the carb/fat ratio starts to creep above 50%. But with this only being 10 miles and not running it very fast, it may have not done anything. Oh well. At least my calf didn't hurt very much (ran in the Free's, which give me a slightly different foot strike than my Kinvaras. Maybe they stress the calf in a different way).
