Ran the big Drakes Creek big loop with Vance and then we did some strides and headed over the the track. My rough goal was to run 5:25, 5:20, 5:15, 5:10 splits but I was going to mainly go by feel.
I got out a little quick with a 78 first lap, so I slammed on the brakes and ended up with splits of 5:21, 5:17, 5:13 and 5:06 for a total time of 20:57. With that being only 6400m, I would have around 21:03 for a full four miles, which is 13 seconds faster than what I ran at the Goodlettsville Classic just under a year ago.
There was a really strong headwind on the homestretch, which would tire me out some but other than that, the pace was pretty relaxed for the first two miles and got a tad difficult the last mile, but I finished feeling really strong with the overall effort being easier than I thought.
This is a pretty motivating session because it's my first faster workout of the season and I think I'm pretty close to 15:00 track shape right now.
