Notes: Begin: - Country Music Hall of Fame (5th and Demonbreun) - Schermerhorn Symphony Hall – (look to left on 4th Ave.) Go North on 5th Ave. into Downtown - Bridgestone Arena – Home of the Nashville Predators (5th and Broadway) - Ryman Auditorium – Home of Blue Grass and the old Grand Ole Opry (5th between Broadway and Commerce Streets) Turn right on Church Street - Downtown Presbyterian Church – attended by President James K. Polk when he lived in Nashville (1848) (5th and Church) - Printers Alley (just past 4th) Turn left on 2nd Avenue - To your right is “The District” - home of great honky tonks and good fun - After you turn left on 2nd , you will be looking at Metro Nashville City Hall and Courthouse Turn left on Union and then right on 3rd Ave. - Look left up Deaderick Ave. at the vista between the Courthouse and Legislative Plaza - Note the observation tower in front of the Courthouse. On another day, climb to the top to have a spectacular view and read the history of Nashville recorded around the top deck. Turn left on Charlotte Ave. - St. Mary’s Catholic Church (5th and Charlotte) – the oldest standing church in Nashville (1847). Used as a hospital during the Civil War – blood stains are said to still be seen on the floor. Considered to be the most haunted building in Nashville. - Legislative Plaza (on your left just past 6th Ave.) - The 5-star Hermitage Hotel is on the other side of Legislative Plaza at 6th Ave. - The Tennessee State Capitol Building is on your right. (Mile 1) Turn right on 7th Ave. - Tennessee Supreme Court (corner of 7th and Charlotte) - Capitol building is to your right - State Library and Archive building is to your left Go through gate at the end of 7th Avenue following the road behind the Capitol building. - While running behind the Capitol building, look left at the view over Bicentennial Mall toward Germantown. Run to back corner behind Capitol to steps at other side - take them down the hill behind the Capitol to the next level - go back across to the steps on the other side. - Note the spectacular view while running down the steps. Take the steps down the hill toward Bicentennial Mall. At the bottom of the hill, you will be on James Robertson Parkway. Cross the street. Run down 7th Ave. toward Bicentennial Mall, crossing Jefferson Avenue, to Monroe Avenue in Germantown. - Bicentennial Mall will be on your right. The history of Tennessee is written on the marble slabs. - Farmers’ Market is on the left. - Assumption Catholic Church (1859) (Monroe and 7th Ave.) (Mile 2) Turn right on Monroe, go two blocks Turn right on 5th, going back to Jefferson Avenue. - Note the architecture of this Germantown neighborhood Turn right onto Jefferson Avenue, run to Dr. D.B. Todd Blvd. - You will pass Hope Gardens on the left (Mile 3) - You will be running through the historic Jefferson Avenue area. - Fisk University is on your left (founded 1866) - Tennessee State University can be seen in the distance on Jefferson Ave. Turn left onto D.B. Todd and run to Charlotte Avenue - Fisk University will be on your left - Meharry Medical College will be on your right (founded 1876), first African-American Medical School in the South. - You will run across the Jubilee Bridge named for the world-famous Fisk Jubilee Singers. (Mile 4) Cross Charlotte Avenue staying on 18th Ave. for two blocks to Patterson Avenue Turn right onto Patterson Avenue and take it to Centennial Park. (At one point, you will be on a sidewalk going through a fence for a few steps.) - Baptist Medical Complex - Centennial Medical Complex (Mile 5) At Centennial Park, go into park and run to the front gate at West End Blvd. - The Parthenon At West End Ave, go left back toward downtown. - Vanderbilt University (1873) will be on your left (Mile 6) - West End United Methodist Church (1929) will be on your right - Cathedral of the Incarnation Catholic Church (1914) will be on your left Turn right onto 16th Street to the Roundabout - Musica Statue will be in the Roundabout (Mile 7) - Music Row is to your right Go to other side of Roundabout down Division Street to 12th Ave. - This area is called “The Gulch” Turn left at 12th Street and take 12th Street through the Gulch back to Broadway. Turn right at Broadway - Union Station Hotel will be on your right - Frist Museum just past Union Station on the right - The United States Federal District Courthouse just past The Frist on the right - Christ Church Cathedral Christian Church (1894) on the left side of Broadway - Historic Hume-Fogg High School (1855) (Mile 8) on the left side of Broadway - The Customs House on the right side of Broadway (1882). The cornerstone was laid by President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1877. - The Masonic Lodge is on your left - The Barbershop Harmony National Headquarters is next door to the Masonic Lodge
