Things got really bad for the flying monkeys in the middle decades of the last century. The tension between expanding human settlements and flying monkey habitats had been growing, as monkey habitats were seen by many as standing in the way of progress and growth. And then, in 1939 a well organized and funded group of monkey exterminists put out an extremely powerful piece of propaganda. The propaganda piece swayed popular human sentiment away from those who would support monkey rights. This propaganda, a movie called The Wizard of Oz, vilified flying monkeys and portrayed them as servants of the darkest of demons. The ill-conceived movie sparked off waves of hatred and moves to eliminate flying monkey settlements once and for all. For years, ragtag bands of militias, poachers and politicians hunted down flying monkeys and tore down their forests. Before long, monkeys were no more seen filling the autumnal skies.
