We're getting closer. My first half mile or so is still slow, but I use the first half to full mile as a warm up. Tonight my first mile was 7:10 (3:50, 3:20). I wanted to be about 6:04 pace (marathon pace) for the rest of the run. Splits were as follows: 3:11, 3:02 (6:13), 3:05, 2:55 (6:00). Average over the last two miles: 6:06.5. Not bad...we're getting close. The problem is that my body isn't used to this kind of running, so I'm having to do less mileage in order to aclimate myself. Shouldn't take too long though; based on my 5k and the way I've been running most of my training runs, my body is ready for this next step. Time to get the brain to come along.
