rain began shortly before the start & continued for about 2 hours. very glad i chose my raincoat at the last minute. started at what felt a very slow pace at 10 min/mi. fairly easy to maintain pace with just a moderate amount of coughing up gunk from the lungs for the first 2 hours. the rain stopped, but i totally hit the wall at mile 12. (sleeping for 10 or 12 hours a night had helped with the cold, but i forgot that i hadn't eaten much all week.) was very thirsty and hungry. somehow resisted the extreme temptation to skip the second loop and stop at the halfway point (but would have still had to walk 3 miles back to the start/my car). so i kept r̶u̶n̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ jogging. had a pack of jelly ("sport") beans from which i ate one or two before each water stop, where i actually stopped and drank usually two cups of water and one of gatorade. had to walk up the couple of long hills on the second loop, and walked for a bit before and after most aid stations. met the marathon man from sydney, running in his marathon (super) man outfit. somehow ran all of the last three miles, during which time, at some point, i finally stopped feeling cold and even unzipped my raincoat a bit. eventually even crossed the finish line. met 2 of my 3 postsickened-modified goals which were: 1) don't get sicker, 2) finish the r̶a̶c̶e̶ run, and 3) beat 5 hours.
