Notes

Very disappointed in this race. Last year I ran 4:33.37 and got 13th, while this year I was only .07 seconds faster and was 13th again. I don't understand how a winter of decent training (compared to last winter of barely anything) results in a .07 second improvement. I had to lead 2.5 laps after the opening laps were a bit slow, so I injected some pace into it. It didn't feel like I was running very fast, just that my legs felt dead after two laps. I was able to close in 31.6, probably my fastest 200 ever in a race, as I was really tough this time and absolutely dug for everything I had. Unfortunately the two leaders in my heat close in more like 29 low and blew me away, the winner running 4:30.50. I have to lower my goal time for outdoors now, to about 4:24 (the school record.) I don't know, maybe I'm one of those kids who doesn't respond to higher training levels. However, that doesn't mean I'm not going to try. Outdoors, I've got a good plan in place. Quickly build up to 40/week right before the racing starts, then likely just remain there. If I'm feeling fine, I may push it to 45. But what's going to be important is cross training. I'm going to do a lot biking (hopefully 30-40 miles a week) to develop my aerobic capacity without the pounding of running. But I think I can chalk this indoor performance up to a lack of sharpness. I need to hit strides, and short speed workouts during outdoors. I also need to get stronger, literally stronger. So those exercises are going to be necessary. My goals as of now are 1:58, 4:24, and 9:25.
