Was planning on 3 x 3200 at between 5:50-6:00 pace, but after the first 400 of the 3rd set I scaled it back just a little. Felt pretty good on the first one & wasn't really working, I got out in an 80 but didn't need to "try" to slow down. Came through 800 in about 2:52, then 2:51. Didn't really kick it in on the first one since I was happy to see sub-11:30. Took a long walk between sets, & the legs were actually a lot more tired than I was expecting going into the first 400 of the 2nd, which ended up being an 81. Held on reeling off a bunch of 85-87s, & put in a good kick to stay under 11:30 again. High School Doug (PR=11:17) would have been proud of these two. ALmost considered calling it a workout after those 2, but wanted to see if I had anything left, & a tough 89 (45/44) first 400 said no. But I did hold on to another 5:45, which is really not that bad - if my 5th mile next weekend is a 5:45 I will be ecstatic. I'm not sure what I'm really getting out of this workout besides a sense of how fast I can legitimately go next weekend. Maybe a tuneup race on Saturday, then a pacing workout early next week, & then it's showtime.
