Notes
Bushy Park Time Trial. Still waiting on official time, but we could be looking at a new PB!
Felt a bit wheezy whilst doing warm up runs. Didn't help I had to walk along Hampton Court Rd because the other Gate was closed off.
1st mile - congested, noticed I was hitting 5:30/mi so I tried to drop down a gear. Very pleased with the 6:46/mi.
2nd mile - started to struggle. Got a stitch a few times, ran it off. I did feel sluggish, started to doubt I had a sub 23m. Kept asking myself was I pushing too hard or not hard enough?
3rd mile - very painful, but towards the end (just before the kiddies' playground) I think it was 18/19mins into the race. I was starting to think it was still feasible to get the sub23m. So I started to ramp up. Kicked off too hard, didn't really know where the finish line was, but I kept my head down. Towards the end I start to flag again.
Last .15mi - Now I can see the finish, can hear someone chasing my tail I start to kick harder. Beat him.
I'm starting to realise how fine the balance is between all out and all spent. I've not been pushing myself near as hard as I could do in races. But I'm also scared that if I push too hard I'll burn out before the last mile or so. Need to learn to run at pace, may try a few pace trained runs to get used to it. I don't like the uncertainty at the moment.
