I hate 7th graders. They think they know everything. My top boy thinks he doesn't have to go on long runs because he thinks he is faster than me. He thinks this because when we go on a 7.5k run and I run 8:45 for the first 5k he has more sprint speed to beat me at the end. So today I decided to show him 1. That he isn't as good as he thinks he is yet. And 2. Why he needs to run long to get there.

I told him you think you can beat me prove it. This time I went out hard. He ran with me for a mile and then decided to set the pace. I let him knowing he would die. Not going to lie I paid the price a little in that second mile especially not knowing when he would die. Luckily it came fast in the third mile. But knowing if I left him he would walk, I slowed up and talked him through mile three. Towards the end of mile four I realized I needed to take the kick out of him or he would be me. So again I upped the pace slowly so he didn't realize right away that I was doing it. With a quarter mile to go I cramped slightly and was wondering if I had out thought myself. But I went anyway and his kick was gone.

We had a long talk afterwards. I explained to him that his opponents would take out the start of races faster than me. I also told him that he was faster than me. But he needed to run long if he wanted to be able to use that speed at the end of races. Hoping I can make some progress with him. He has a lot of potential.
