rpe 8. Brick. Beginning the brick from the mentality of running the final 15K of the IM was unique. Instead of building up to a race pace effort as I would coming out of T2< I am expecting to already be at race effort by the final 15K. So with that thought in mind I began my brick at a higher effort then usual. I thought the first mile was faster than it felt. So I simply ran as I felt for the next couple of miles. I was able to maintain my relative low effort at the current pace. The run was feeling comfortable. I felt like I could have ran much faster. On race day, I want to be able to pick it up late in the race(based on how I feel). I wanted to take on the same mentality today. So with about 4-5 miles remaining(approx half way through) I began to pick up the pace. I quickly decided that at the current effort I was running with the pace I was setting that I should not push any harder but to maintain my current effort. I was putting forth a good effort and did not see any reason to push the effort as I might on race day so that I might avoid any injuries. Finished the run feeling ood. I felt like I could have ran another lap. Perhaps not at that effort for the entire 2nd lap. But I might have based on how I was feeling. I consumed ~80 cals from gel. plus 3/4 can of defizzled coke. The weather greatly impacted my performance today. Positive run.
