Long run!

Meant to go out earlier this morning to do this run, so I could enjoy the COOL 60's...BUT I over slept and ended up going at 10 am...beginning of the hottest time of the day. Oh well, got to run.

First 5 miles were alright, no complaints. Second 5 miles were killer. I ran out of water around mile 7 - and had about 3 more miles to run - at the hottest point in my run, WITH NO WATER. NO water in my hand. NO water fountains. NO places to stop in and get water....OUCH.

I was starting to get a little woozy around mile 8 or so, and I was beginning to look at each person that walked, biked or ran by to see if they had a water bottle...it was like looking at the oasis in a desert...knowing you see it, but you can't have any!

I even began to ponder stopping off at one of the houses lining the canal, should my situation become dire enough...and just as I was beginning to lose hope, the train bridge came into sight and there was hope at last! I would have my water, and drink it to!

What a glorious moment it was when I reached the bath house at the train bridge. Right into the bathroom I went, and indulged myself in the cool, running water. I rinsed my sweaty hands, splashed my sticky face and rejoiced at the coolness at I poured water and let it drip down my head.

Then, out to the water fountain! YES! I slurped on the water until I thought it might give me a stomach cramp, and then I filled my water bottle. Drank the whole thing. And filled it again. And drank more water from the fountain. And then made sure my bottle was topped off, and stretched, and then off I went! The last 4 miles of my run lay ahead of me, and enough water I would have!

A lesson learned, to plan water on these long runs. I usually never have a problem with this in the city, I carry water or Gatorade and plan my runs to hit at least 2-3 fountains throughout the route...lesson learned on the Cape!

All in all, a good run, The tendon WAS getting tight throughout the run though - I think I had 3 stretching breaks to ease the tightness....noted.
