Notes

I came into this race wanting to get into the low 21's or on a really good effort sub 21. I did'nt quite make it though today. Perfect conditions to race. I was rested well since i had one day off earlier this week and yesterday off to nurse my L knee. The knee affected me a little at the turnaround but otherwise was fine. I went out at a good pace for what i felt i could handle a 6:50 to 6:55 pace, and i always go out a little faster than what i want to avg for the race, at least in the 5k's i do that just so i don't get too comfortable and slack off. My sinuses affected my rhythm going into the 2nd mile which caused me to lose focus, and it took me too long to get back into that rhythm. On a good note i was considerably faster today than i was at the Nick Caldwell 5k a few weeks ago. I am wanting to go sub 21 so bad, but i have come to the conclusion i am going to need to get some shorter intervals in somewhere to get my legs use to maintaining a high turnover. I can go out pretty fast and then i have a little spurt of high turnover on the finishing kick, but in the middle i am redlining to maintain the faster pace. Part of it is a lack of concentration. Today for the middle of the race i felt like i could'nt get the legs to go any faster. My legs were not burning or tired during this race, i did struggle with oxygen debt, but i just did not have that faster gear for the middle of the race. I may need to start throwing in some quarters or 200's workouts into the mix of my training to get my legs acquainted w/the faster paces.

Positive step towards BQ at Shamrock Shane! These 5ks will make MP feel that much easier come the goal race of the buildup! Everything before is just good hard training! Great seeing you today as well!

Still a solid race for what you have been through Shane!Even though I haven't raced in over six months cause my job,I highly recommend doing a 5x1000m workout with a 400m rec jog in between.
