Notes

Dear 3200m,

During the past year, you have intimidated me. I have shuddered at the sight of your 4 digits, realizing that your lap count was twice that number. The sheer utterance of your 7 syllables could have raised my heart rate 40 bpm's and produced in me a chill capable of freezing helium. I distinctly recall the first time I spotted my name next to yours, printed in Comic Sans, font size 13, one third of the way down the line-up our coach had distributed on the evening of Thursday, February 19th, 2015. At that time, you were confined to a 150m indoor track and thus consisted of 21.3 laps, a quantity even an Olympian would regard with foreboding. When I raced you outdoors however, I saw a side of you I hadn't known existed. I discovered in you a realm of enjoyment, an event in which I could satisfy my coach's optimism. I would like to apologize for my early misjudgment toward you. I look forward to seeing you again soon and hope for more success in the future.

Sincerely,

Hank DeVries - 2nd place finalist in the 3200m at the Lion Scrub Invite
