Shoe test, part 1. This was a brief test of a new pair of Merrell Trail Glove, size 11. Since the Sonic Glove fabric did not allow sufficient width, I'm hoping the TG mesh can, but with a length that does not cause blackened toenails. This was my normal loop by the lake. The loop started well enough, but things were generally off. My nasal breathing seemed to not allow as much HR range as before. I wrenched the Garmin on my belt loop around enough to read the 140 HR. Ah. I needed to blow my nose. That helped. Then, I notice that my left foot is landing with much more noise than normal and more than the right. I try to play around with form, but it doesn't help. I decide I am in dire need of some remedial BF coursework. After starting a second loop, I stop at the benches at the bottom of the boat ramp where the path starts and take off my shoes. While much more quiet now, my form doesn't settle in until half a loop is done. But, an ache in the 10:00 position of my left knee is starting up and my legs just feel zapped. So, I wrap up the session and head home. I'm wondering about the causes of this knee issue. Did the blackened toenails and that sensitivity contribute to a form change, which is causing the knee issues? Or, was it just extending the duration of the runs that did it? I know it is something, but am not quite sure what. Some more experimentation is required.
